ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Appointment of the Dean of the Rady School of Management

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Lisa
D. Ordóñez as the next Dean of the Rady School of Management, effective
September 1, 2019.

Dr. Ordóñez holds a Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology and an M.S. in
Marketing from the Haas School of Business Administration, both at UC
Berkeley. She currently serves as the Vice Dean of Academic Programs at
the Eller School of Management at the University of Arizona where she
manages an $80 million budget; oversees, develops and resources high
quality academic and research programs; guides departments in the
recruitment and promotion of a diverse faculty; and recently led the
school through a successful AACSB accreditation review process. She
co-chaired the campus-wide process that created the University of
Arizona's 2019 Strategic Plan. More than 8,000 students, faculty and
community members engaged in developing the extensive plan, which
includes over 90 strategic goals and initiatives intended to guide the
University's priorities for years to come.

Dr. Ordóñez has been a member of the Eller College faculty since 1994.
She holds a joint appointment as a Professor in Psychology and Marketing
and is the McClelland Professor of Management and Organizations. Her
areas of expertise include judgment and decision making with
applications to management and consumer behavior, ethical decision
making, negative impact of goal setting systems, and emotions and
decision making. Dr. Ordóñez's faculty appointment at UC San Diego will
follow the traditional process of review by the academic unit, Committee
on Academic Personnel, and the administration. She will also be proposed
as the holder of the Stanley and Pauline Foster Endowed Chair.

A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Ordóñez has been a dedicated
contributor to programs that support student success and assist women
and underrepresented minorities in reaching their career goals. She
chairs the Eller College Diversity and Inclusion Committee and serves on
a university-wide initiative focused on diversity in faculty hiring. Dr.
Ordóñez serves on several national editorial boards, and is a member of
the Academy of Management, Phi Beta Kappa, Management Faculty of Color,
the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in
Science, and the Society for Judgment and Decision Making.

As Dean of the Rady School of Management, Dr. Ordóñez will serve as a
key member of the University's leadership team, setting school goals and
developing long-range plans in support of the university's strategic
vision. Her strategic, creative, and inclusive approach to leadership
will serve the Rady School and our campus well.

Dr. Ordóñez is taking on the leadership of the Rady School of Management
as the successor to Dr. Robert Sullivan, who was appointed as the
school's founding dean in 2003. A nationally recognized and highly
experienced academic leader, Dean Sullivan provided the vital strategic
vision necessary to create a strong and enduring foundation for the Rady
School of Management. He wisely engaged leaders in the local innovation
economy community and outstanding members of the broader San Diego
community in guiding the school's ascent. Under Dean Sullivan's
leadership, the Rady School swiftly achieved distinction as one of the
youngest business schools in the US to achieve AACSB accreditation and
became widely recognized for its excellence, innovation, and impact on
the San Diego region and beyond. We are deeply appreciative of Dean
Sullivan's outstanding leadership in founding the Rady School of
Management and his many years of service to UC San Diego; the School's
continuing success and growth will be his enduring legacy to our
university and the San Diego region.

We sincerely thank Biological Sciences Dean Kit Pogliano for providing
crucial leadership as the chair of the search advisory committee and for
ensuring that all voices were heard during this important and thorough
search. We are also grateful to the members of the search advisory
committee for the innumerable hours they devoted to the process and for
their thoughtful contributions and insights, which have resulted in a
successful conclusion to the search. We also appreciate the wide-ranging
input from the many members of the campus community who participated in
the search process.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Ordóñez to UC San Diego, and in
extending our sincere appreciation to Dean Robert Sullivan for his
longstanding and visionary leadership as founding Dean of the Rady
School of Management.
