SUBJECT:    Director Search for the Institute of Engineering in Medicine (IEM)

A search is now underway for the position of Director of the Institute of Engineering in Medicine (IEM), an Organized Research Unit at UC San Diego. The Director will report to the Vice Chancellor for Research.

Responsibilities of the Director include:
-Intellectual leadership and direction for the Institute's research, educational, and campus-wide service activities,
-Administrative and managerial oversight of the Institute,
-Promotion of the scholarly activities of the Institute at UC San Diego

Qualifications include a superior teaching and research record, familiarity with UC San Diego engineering and medicine research programs, some record of activity associated with IEM, and demonstrated contributions to the campus community, including efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, and the UC San Diego Principles of Community.

Eligibility is restricted to those individuals holding tenured faculty appointments at UC San Diego. It is anticipated that the initial appointment will be for a five-year term from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2024.

The search committee is Shaochen Chen (Professor, Nanoengineering), Susan Golden (Professor, Molecular Biology), Juan Lasheras (Professor, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering), Kevin Patrick (Professor, Family Medicine and Public Health), and Elizabeth Winzeler (Professor, Pediatrics).
