SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project: Voigt Drive Evening Closure July 10-11, 2019 for New Pedestrian Bridge

Project Location/Description:

The Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project continues with the construction
of the elevated Light Rail trolley track and the Pepper Canyon and Voigt
Stations. The next phase is construction of a new Pedestrian Bridge over
Voigt Drive which will connect the north side of Voigt Drive, at the new
elevator/stair tower near The Preuss School, to the south side of Voigt,
at the new station platform, directly east the P701 parking lot
entrance. Construction work is scheduled for the evenings of July 10 and
11, between 9pm and 5am, in order to minimize impact to traffic and
accessibility.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

During the hours of construction, a portion of Voigt Drive will be fully
closed to public traffic, between Campus Point Drive and the entrance of
the P701 parking lot. Emergency vehicles will have full access to both
UC San Diego Health and Scripps at all times and Flaggers will be
present at both ends of the construction area to direct and safely
escort them through the construction site. Access to the entrance of
Scripps Hospital from Genesee via Scripps Hospital Driveway will not be
impacted during construction.

Vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians are encouraged to use alternate
roads during construction hours for access to the medical centers which
will not be impacted. From Genesee, Campus Point Drive to Medical Center
Drive will remain open and access from Gilman Drive using the new Gilman
Bridge to Medical Center Drive. Detours will be clearly marked when
approaching the construction area. Parking lot P701 will remain
accessible at all times.

In an effort to provide advanced notice to frequent travelers of the
area, large electrical messaging boards will be placed along Voigt Drive
one week in advance of the work, confirming the dates and times of the
closures. To minimize confusion and alleviate traffic congestion during
peak travel times, nighttime work and construction sequencing have been
carefully incorporated in the construction effort.
