SUBJECT:    Call for Nominations - Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Postdoctoral Scholar Mentoring and Outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar

I am pleased to announce the call for nominees for the 2019 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Scholar Mentoring and the Chancellor's Outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar Award.

Each year, these awards are given in recognition of the exceptional postdoctoral scholars and mentors who contribute to making UC San Diego one of the best research institutions in the nation. UC San Diego Postdoctoral Scholars are individuals who have recently completed a doctoral degree and, under the oversight of a faculty mentor, continue research training in preparation for a career in academe, industry, government, or the nonprofit sector.

*Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Scholar Mentoring*

Faculty mentors who provide guidance, support and inspiration to research and career excellence are essential to the success of the postdoctoral scholar. This award honors and encourages faculty mentors who serve as effective advisors, advocates, role models, and colleagues who consistently promote and actively engage in the many forms of mentorship. This award will provide the principal nominating postdoctoral scholar with $500 to support attendance at a professional association or society meeting that relates to their research interest or to enroll in a course that will advance their career development. The faculty mentor will receive $1,000 to support mentorship for their research group, an engraved plaque and a congratulatory letter from Chancellor Khosla. A total of two awards will be given in 2019.

*Chancellor's Outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar Award*

This award recognizes postdoctoral scholars who exemplify UC San Diego's research mission -- to strive for and advance the frontiers of research, provide leadership and mentorship to the next generation, and participate in their professional development through service, training and scholarship. The award will provide $1,000, an engraved plaque and a congratulatory letter from Chancellor Khosla. A total of two awards will be given in 2019.
