Updates from your CHRO
Dear Colleagues,
Fall quarter is upon us and early indicators are pointing toward a safe and successful start to the new term. Kudos to our dedicated colleagues who planned and facilitated move-in week. This is yet another example of the way UC San Diego staff keep the university moving forward, creating an exceptional living and learning experience for our students.
Last week, I hosted our third Staff Town Hall. Thanks to everyone who participated and submitted questions. If you weren’t able to join us last week, you can watch a recording of the event on the Return to Learn website. Our next Town Hall is coming up on Thursday, October 22 at 3 p.m.; register today and keep an eye out for more details.
On the Horizon: Important Dates and Deadlines
Crip Camp Panel Discussion: As part of our programming for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Campus Human Resources is proud to present a panel discussion of the Netflix documentary Crip Camp on Tuesday, October 13 from 12 – 1 p.m. Winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s Audience Award, Crip Camp is the story of Camp Jened, a groundbreaking summer camp for teens with disabilities.
Join us for a discussion moderated by Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Becky Pettit with panelists:
• Co-directors and co-producers Nicole Newnham and Jim LeBrecht, 1978 graduate of UC San Diego and former Jened camper • Judy Heumann, internationally recognized and celebrated pioneer of the disability rights movement and former Camp Jened counselor • Jimmy Cong, staff member in the Office for Students with Disabilities and 2018 graduate of UC San Diego • Syreeta Nolan, current UC San Diego undergraduate student, UCSA Underrepresented Student Officer and co-chair of the UCSA/UCGPC Disability Ad Hoc Committee
I highly recommend watching the film before the event; you can view the trailer here and find the full film on Netflix and YouTube. (Please note: the trailer and film contain mild adult language and themes.)
Open Enrollment: Save the date for Open Enrollment, October 29 – November 24. Open Enrollment is a window during which you may change your coverage or add eligible dependents onto your health insurance. More information is coming soon, including details about our Virtual Benefits Fair where you can learn about your options.
Health and Wellness Updates

Getting a flu shot is quick and easy and you have a range of convenient options to choose from:

Schedule your flu vaccine » • Drive-up locations: We are offering three drive-up locations in La Jolla, Hillcrest, and Rancho Bernardo to receive your flu shot without even having to leave your car. Schedule your flu vaccine »
Already got your flu vaccine this year? Submit your flu vaccine attestation (that is, self-reporting that you have received a vaccine) through the Work & Health Management form.
CA COVID Notify: A powerful tool to fight COVID-19 is right in your hands: add CA COVID Notify to your phone to enable the exposure notification system from Google and Apple. The technology can quickly notify you if you’ve likely been exposed to COVID-19, allowing you to seek medical attention and reduce risk for your friends, family and the Triton community. Plus, CA COVID Notify was created specifically to supercharge contact-tracing efforts like our own without compromising the privacy of the users.
