Dear Colleagues,
In Human Resources, my colleagues and I have the privilege of working with employees at every stage of their journey with UC San Diego, from the day they submit an application to the day they retire and even beyond that. Today I have the pleasure of hosting our annual Service Award ceremony, during which we will honor and celebrate 410 colleagues who have achieved service milestones ranging from ten to forty years.
If you’d like to join us for the ceremony this afternoon from 3 - 4 p.m., here is the link to the Zoom event. Registration is not required. I encourage you to come and celebrate your colleagues who are celebrating their service milestones.
Read on to learn more about what’s happening in our campus community.
On the Horizon: Important Dates and Deadlines
Staff Town Hall: Our monthly Staff Town Hall is coming up next week on Thursday, October 22 at 3 p.m. If you’ve got a question for campus leaders, I encourage you to submit it when you register. Your questions are vital in helping us understand what’s on your mind so we can stay in communication and share relevant information. Register and submit your questions »
Open Enrollment: Save the date for Open Enrollment, October 29 – November 24. Open Enrollment is a window during which you may change your coverage or add eligible dependents onto your health insurance. If you’ve never logged in to UCPath, make sure to do so before Open Enrollment starts so you can familiarize yourself with the self-service portal.
Holiday Schedule: During the 2020 holiday season, UC San Diego (excluding the Health system) will officially close for seven days between Thursday, December 24, 2020 and Friday, January 1, 2021. Earlier this week, we received a message from the Office of the President regarding potential changes to system-wide curtailment dates. If you’d like to share your feedback on this proposal, check your email for a link to an anonymous survey, which was sent on Tuesday.
Campus Community Updates
Voting and Political Activity: The late John Lewis, civil rights trailblazer and longtime U.S. congressman, said: “The vote is precious. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society, and we must use it.” With the general election right around the corner, I hope each of you will exercise your right to vote and play an active role in our democracy. The deadline to register to vote is next week on Monday, October 19.
A recent edition of the Academic Affairs newsletter underscored the impact that this election may have on staff, faculty and students, and especially international students. The article outlined efforts and resources to help our campus community prepare, including the Election 2020 Sensitive Issues Response Team and the UC San Diego Free Expression website.
If you need time to vote and do not have enough time outside of your normal working hours, you are eligible to take up to two hours (of paid leave for hourly staff) at the beginning or end of your work day to vote, with prior approval of your supervisor. In addition, as a reminder, here are the guidelines for political activity at UC San Diego, along with information about registering to vote.
Mental Health Resources: We all have seen that as the pandemic continues to disrupt our personal and professional lives, we may be experiencing heightened feelings of anxiety. It has never been more important to prioritize your mental health and I encourage you to explore the resources available to you as a UC San Diego staff member.
The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), a division of Campus Human Resources, offers a variety of services and resources to help individuals and departments with a range of issues, such as trauma recovery, grief and wellness. All services are currently offered remotely, using HIPPA-compliant, encrypted Zoom links.
- Counseling: FSAP offers confidential counseling sessions for individuals, couples and families. Learn more about scheduling an appointment »
- Workshops, groups and classes: Explore FSAP’s range of classes, support groups and resources, including programs for parents, caregivers, managers and more. Learn more »
Return to Learn Updates
CA COVID Notify: Have you added CA COVID Notify app to your phone yet? Using Google and Apple technology, CA COVID Notify can quickly notify you if you’ve likely been exposed to COVID-19, allowing you to seek medical attention and reduce risk for your friends, family and the Triton community without compromising your privacy. Get instructions for activating the tool on your phone »
Asymptomatic COVID Testing: All faculty, staff and student employees are strongly encouraged to schedule voluntary, no-cost asymptomatic COVID-19 tests regularly, ideally every 12-16 days. It’s quick and easy and you have a range of testing sites and drive-through locations to choose from. Schedule your asymptomatic test »
Work Location and Flu Vaccine Attestation: Make sure to log in to the Work and Health Management tool to provide your flu shot attestation and to update your work location. Until you complete both these fields, you may be redirected to the tool upon logging into your Active Directory account. Learn more about the flu vaccination requirement »
Enhanced Dashboard Data: Our Return to Learn COVID-19 dashboard was recently enhanced and now provides richer data, including totals of daily tests and confirmed positive cases, campus density statistics and more. Explore the dashboard »
That’s all for this week. As always, thank you for all you are doing for UC San Diego.
Stay safe and be well,
