Dear Colleagues,
As October comes to a close and we look ahead to the holiday season, it’s more vital than ever to take steps to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19. For many, the holidays are a time for celebration and reconnecting with loved ones, which often involves traveling. If you are planning to travel in the next few months, I encourage you to review our holiday travel advice and resources for keeping yourself, your family and friends, and your community safe and healthy.
Read on to learn more about what’s happening in our campus community.
On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines
Open Enrollment: Open Enrollment starts tomorrow, Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 8 a.m. (PST), and ends on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 5 p.m. (PST). During this window, employees may log in to UCPath to change their coverage or add eligible dependents onto their health insurance. Check out the Virtual Benefits Fair to learn more about your options and to explore the many benefits of being a UC San Diego employee. Get more information about Open Enrollment »
UCPath and Financial Information System Town Hall: At recent Staff Town Halls, many employees have expressed questions about UCPath and our financial information systems. For an opportunity to learn more, attend the Town Hall on Wednesday, November 4 at 1:30 p.m. where campus leaders will offer a comprehensive update on the implementation, discuss issues raised by the campus community and outline efforts to support and improve department operations. Register for the UCPath and Financial Information System Town Hall »
Voting Time: As a reminder, if you need time to vote and do not have enough time outside of your normal working hours, you are eligible to take up to two hours of paid leave at the beginning or end of your work day to vote, with prior approval of your supervisor.
Important Updates for Staff
Flu Vaccine Mandate Postponed: The University of California flu vaccine requirement is currently under discussion and will not take effect on November 1, as originally planned. At least through November 5, UC San Diego will not require employees and students to receive flu vaccinations prior to coming to campus. When more information is available I’ll provide an update on this issue.
Vacation Accrual Maximum Extension: Effective June 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, policy-covered staff employees may receive up to an additional 12 months (instead of up to an additional four months) within which to take vacation leave in order to bring their vacation accrual below the maximum. Employees will continue to accrue vacation leave during this timeframe. Please note: this does not apply to represented employees.
Community and Connection
Intention-Setting Series: There’s a lot going on in our world right now, and many are feeling increased stress and anxiety. Human Resources is here to assist: join Crystal Green, Ph.D, LMFT, director of the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, for Sink your Roots Deep, Spread Your Branches Wide, a 21-day intention-setting series. The program starts on Monday, November 2 and concludes on Sunday, November 22.
Crystal will lead brief, thoughtful Zoom sessions using simple meditations, skill-building and community empowerment to help keep UC San Diego Campus employees focused, upbeat, productive and connected during the month of November. Facilitated sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Resources will be provided to practice independently the rest of the week.
I hope you’ll consider participating in this opportunity to use the power of community and the strength of intention to grow and thrive during this challenging season of life. If you’d like to participate, email Crystal Green at cegreen@ucsd.edu to be added to the sign up list. (You must use an authenticated UC San Diego email address to participate.)
Stay safe and be well,
