UC San Diego is committed to the health and safety of all. The most important measure to prevent flu infection is an annual flu vaccination and is even more important during a pandemic. Similar to the steps we take to reduce COVID-19 infection such as wearing a face covering, physical distancing, and good hand hygiene, getting an annual flu vaccination helps stop the spread in the community in addition to protecting yourself and your campus community.
The University of California has issued a systemwide executive order requiring all members of the UC community to receive an influenza immunization before November 1, 2020 if they plan to be on campus during the flu season, which is anticipated to extend through the academic year. In order to be on campus starting November 1 and continuing through the end of the flu season, you will need to attest that you have received the flu shot or have received an approved medical exemption or disability or religious accommodation. Please also see these frequently asked questions for more information about the executive order.
Our goal is to offer a flu vaccine to any student who needs access to it through Student Health Services. Convenience is at the forefront of our flu campaign.
STUDENT FLU VACCINATION
Students may receive vaccinations through Student Health Services at the Price Center. You can self-schedule a flu vaccine appointment through mystudentchart.ucsd.edu or in the MyStudentChart app. Vaccinations will be administered by appointment only. To reduce delays at check-in, please ensure you have completed the short online Flu Questionnaire in MyStudentChart prior to your appointment time.
Influenza Vaccination Locations
Price Center
Flu shot appointments are available at the Price Center West location in Ballroom A. You will need to remain on-site for 15 minutes after receiving your vaccination.
Drive-up locations
Currently, UC San Diego Health is offering three drive-up locations in La Jolla, Hillcrest, and Rancho Bernardo to receive your flu shot without even having to leave your car. Please note that while appointments are very fast, you will need to remain on-site in your vehicle for at least 15 minutes after receiving the shot for observation per CDC guidance.
Flu vaccination outside UC San Diego Health
Many local pharmacies and clinics offer free flu shots. You may also visit your primary care provider to receive your flu shot. For many students studying remotely, this may be the easiest and most convenient option. If there is any possibility that you might come to campus for the winter or spring quarters, it is strongly recommended to receive the flu shot as the requirement will still be in effect at that time.
ATTESTATION
All students should complete the attestation by November 1, 2020.
- If you receive the flu shot from Student Health Services at the Price Center or a UC San Diego Health Services site, you do not need to attest since documentation of your vaccination will be automatically documented in your MyStudentChart.
- If you receive your vaccination outside of UC San Diego, you must attest that you have received the flu vaccine in MyStudentChart.
EXEMPTIONS/ACCOMMODATIONS
Please note that disability or religious accommodation is only permissible for the influenza vaccination. All other required vaccinations must be documented by the November 1 deadline.
Thank you for helping our campus community with this important safety measure during these unprecedented times.
