Through several months of restricted on-site activity and necessary safety requirements designed to reduce the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2, you have done an admirable job of observing safety protocols while continuing your training and educational activity in a wide variety of research settings. We are well aware of the challenges that the pandemic has presented to you, and deeply appreciative of the dedication you have shown to balancing safety with the continuation of your education.
As you know, San Diego County is now in the “purple” tier because transmission is widespread. Research at UC San Diego will continue. For those of you coming onto campus for research, please observe the following safety precautions:
Wear a face covering at all times;
Complete the UCSD symptom/exposure screening tool each day before coming to campus;
Maintain a 6-foot distance from others whenever possible;
Isolate after testing positive for COVID-19. Those who test positive for COVID-19 should not return to work on-site until they have been cleared by a medical provider.
When notified that you have been exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19, quarantine for 14 days. Students in quarantine are not permitted to participate in on-campus research.
Because of the California limited stay-at-home order, if you work in a research facility between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am, please check with your research supervisor regarding continued activity during this time.
As students, scholars, and scientists, you know how critical frequent testing, symptom checking, awareness and education are in keeping our campus and you healthy. We ask you not only to do your part by following campus guidance, but also to encourage your peers to do the same.
If at any time you experience any barriers to testing, please contact vcsa@ucsd.edu. If you have any concerns about inattention to safety requirements, please notify EH&S at eoc@ucsd.edu (858-534-3660) or contact the UC Whistleblower hotline (800-403-4744).
