As Chancellor, I am proud of the many innovative ways we have come together to respond to the global pandemic and support our Return to Learn program at UC San Diego.
In order to continue to support the safety of our campus community and in light of the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases locally and across the nation, UC San Diego is moving to a weekly testing requirement for all academics and staff who are reporting to campus for work.
Effective immediately, all UC San Diego employees (staff, faculty, research, clinical) who report to work on campus are required to get a COVID-19 test on a weekly basis unless they had COVID-19 in the last 90 days. Tests will be provided for free and during normal working hours. Employees should consult with and coordinate with their supervisors about when they will be tested with the goal of minimizing disruptions to campus operations.
Additional leave protections will be available for all UC San Diego non-academic employees including health system and health sciences who have taken a COVID-19 test pursuant to the required testing program and have tested positive. Such employees will be eligible for paid leave in the work hour equivalent of up to 10 calendar days from the positive test.
This is an important additional protection in tandem with the many other measures we have implemented to strengthen our campus community and maximize safety and protection for all of us.
Protocols for Campus Affiliates and Non-Affiliates
UC San Diego is working to minimize the health risks for campus affiliates and to align campus health and safety standards and protocols for non-affiliates based on the extent of potential exposure and level of risk to the campus population.
On-Campus Special Non-Affiliates (e.g., Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Ludwig Institute, Sanford Consortium and others) & On Campus Contractors (Price Center Vendors, Target, etc.): Employees and contractors in these organizations are required to meet all campus COVID-19 protocols: (1) complete the daily symptom screening, (2) receive COVID-19 testing at the same frequency as campus employees working on campus, (3) enable CA Notify technology on their mobile devices, and (4) adhere to all campus COVID-19 health and hygiene measures.
Construction Contractors & Contracted Service Providers (EDCO, Fed-Ex, etc.): Employees of these organizations are required to meet all campus COVID-19 protocols: (1) daily symptom screening, (2) enable CA Notify technology on mobile devices, and (3) adhere to all campus COVID-19 health and hygiene measures. It is recommended that these employees also receive COVID-19 testing at the same frequency as the campus.
More details about these protocols are available on Blink.
