Dear Colleagues,
With just a few weeks left in the calendar year, it can feel like a race to the finish line in both our personal and professional lives. In these remaining weeks of 2020, I encourage you to find opportunities to pause and reflect on all that you and your colleagues have accomplished. It’s been a truly extraordinary year and together we have accomplished remarkable things.
Looking back at 2020, I’d love to know what you’re feeling proud about. Please share your thoughts with me using this form and then tune into next week’s Staff Town Hall and I’ll highlight some accomplishments from our incredible staff community.
Read on for important reminders and to find out what else is happening in our campus community.
Health and Safety Updates
No-Cost Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing: All faculty, staff and student employees have access to no-cost asymptomatic COVID-19 testing as often as weekly. There are a number of convenient UC San Diego Health testing sites throughout San Diego County. With the significant increase in viral activity in our region, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of this benefit and get tested regularly. Schedule your asymptomatic test »
Low Cost Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing for Friends, Family and Community Members: UC San Diego Health is proud to offer $65 asymptomatic testing for the community. This testing is available at any of our five drive-up locations. Results are provided within 48 hours. The goal is to help increase screening in the community as well as to provide testing for various purposes such as school or travel needs. Learn more and schedule a test »
Expansion of CA Notify Exposure Notification System: Earlier this week, the California governor’s office announced a statewide expansion to make the CA Notify exposure notification system available to all Californians starting Thursday, December 10 in partnership with UC San Diego Health. Using Google and Apple technology, the app can quickly notify you if you’ve likely been exposed to COVID-19, allowing you to seek medical attention and reduce risk for your friends, family and community without compromising your privacy. Get instructions for activating the tool on your phone »
Chancellor Supplemental Leave: As a reminder, Chancellor Khosla authorized an extension of the time within which campus staff employees can use the one-time grant of 80 hours of Chancellor Supplemental Leave to June 30, 2021. Please note that this leave provision is specific to campus and Health Sciences staff employees. Academic employees should contact Academic Personnel Services for more information about applicable leave provisions.
On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines
Staff Town Hall: Our final Staff Town Hall of 2020 is on Tuesday, December 15 at 4 p.m. If you’ve got questions for campus leaders, I encourage you to submit them when you register. Your questions are vital in helping us understand what’s on your mind so we can provide the most relevant information. Register and submit your questions »
Staff Holiday Celebration: Our virtual Staff Holiday Celebration is coming up next week from December 15-17. The Staff Association has put together a festive slate of events, including:
Using Vacation Hours During Campus Closure: The UC San Diego campus will close from Thursday, December 24 through Friday, January 1. The closure period includes four university paid holidays (December 24, 25, 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021). Staff employees must charge any working days during the closure period not covered by paid holidays to accrued vacation, accrued compensatory time off (non-exempt only) or leave without pay.
Non-represented employees who do not have accrued vacation or accrued compensatory time off to cover the three working days during the closure (December 28, 29, and 30, 2020) may request a one-time advance of up to three days of vacation to cover the absence. Learn more about the campus closure »
