ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Timely Warning – Brandishing of a Firearm

On February 17, 2020 at 9:32 pm the UC San Diego Police Department received a report of a subject brandishing a firearm near 9266 Regents Road (Mesa Apartments). The victim stated that a male approached him, as the victim sat in his vehicle, and brandished a black firearm. The male subject asked the victim to get out of his car. The victim refused and drove away from the suspect. The suspect was last seen running eastbound toward Regents Road. The suspect was described as a Hispanic or Black male, approximately 5’9, dark curly hair, shadow beard, wearing a green or gray jacket, and unknown colored pants. The suspect has not been apprehended and the investigation is on-going.

If you are approached by a suspect who brandishes a weapon, follow the below safety tips:

• Your personal safety is more important than money or merchandise.
• Believe the suspect if they say they have a gun, knife or other weapon.
• Try to maintain a calm demeanor. Don’t make sudden moves or try to apprehend the suspect yourself. Concentrate on remembering a description of the suspect and when safe to do so, call police immediately by dialing 9-1-1.
• Assess the situation. Remember every situation is different; you are the only one who can decide the appropriate course of action.
• Seek medical attention as required.
