ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    UC San Diego Celebrates Black History Month

Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in UC San Diego's
Black History Month Celebration throughout February. The important
observance and celebration of diversity will feature film screenings,
lectures and concerts to commemorate the history, contributions and
achievements of African Americans in U.S. history. This year’s theme is
"African Americans and the Vote: Recognizing 150 Years of the 15th
Amendment and the 19th Amendment Centennial."

We hope you can participate in this important commemoration of the
history, contributions, and achievements of African Americans in U.S.
history and culture. For a complete list of events, please visit:
http://blackhistorymonth.ucsd.edu.

In recognition of this annual event, two hours of administrative leave
with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego Black
History Month activity. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use
of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of
required job duties or patient care.

On behalf of the campus community, we would like to express our sincere
appreciation to the members of the UC San Diego Black History Month
Planning Committee for their work on this celebration.
