ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Call for Nominations and Moderators – 33rd Annual Undergraduate Research Conference

Academic Enrichment Programs (AEP) invites your nomination of outstanding undergraduate students to participate in the 33nd Annual Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) on Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ida and Cecil Green Faculty Club. The deadline to nominate is March 16, 2020.

Our signature annual event is the only campus-wide conference that provides undergraduates of all disciplines and intellectual interests with the opportunity to present research papers, experiments, or other projects at small informal roundtable sessions moderated by a faculty member. The 150 to 200 students who have participated in the conference in recent years have found it to be both a challenging and richly rewarding experience.

The URC supports the scholarly and creative aspirations of UC San Diego undergraduates and provides increased opportunities for their intellectual recognition and encouragement. To participate, students must be nominated by a UC San Diego faculty member. Student presenters attending will have the opportunity to engage with faculty and will receive a certificate recognizing their scholarly achievements. A catered breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided.

To nominate up to three outstanding students for this year’s URC, please complete the following online form and inform your student of the nomination, and AEP will reach out to the student with further instructions:

In addition, we hope you will consider serving as a roundtable moderator at the event. You do not need to have a student in the conference to serve as moderator. If you would like to volunteer, please complete this form by March 31, 2020:

To help us better serve the academic community, we have included three brief assessment questions at the end of these two forms. Even if you aren't participating in the conference, we would appreciate your clicking on either link to tell us more about your experiences with undergraduate research.

Your nomination of undergraduate presenters and/or participation in this uniquely inclusive scholastic event provides vital support to the prestige of undergraduate research at UC San Diego. We appreciate your encouragement of this valuable program.

If you have any questions regarding the conference, please contact Dr. David Artis, Dean of Undergraduate Research Advancement at x20385 (dartis@ucsd.edu), or Dr. Claire Kim, Faculty Mentor Program Coordinator at x45791 (clairekim@ucsd.edu).
