Reaffirmation of Accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

We are delighted to announce that the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges (WASC) has reaffirmed the accreditation of UC San Diego for
another 10 years.

WASC is the regional organization that provides umbrella accreditation
for UC San Diego through its Senior College and Universities Commission
(WSCUC). The campus is periodically reviewed to ensure that the
educational standards as set forth by WASC continue to be met.
Reaffirmation of accreditation is a multi-year, self-study process that
formally engages the campus in a rigorous examination of how
institutional resources, structures, and processes are aligned with
scholastic outcomes. UC San Diego has been accredited by WASC since
1964.

We deeply appreciate the outstanding leadership of Dean John Moore, as
well as the involvement of so many students, staff, and faculty who
participated in committees or activities that were part of our
reaccreditation process. This was truly an all-campus effort. The WSCUC
Review Team commented favorably on the quality of the institutional
self-study which they deemed excellent and indicative of deep
reflection, the foundation of the Teaching + Learning Commons, campus
leadership, financial management, ties between the campus and community,
and our proactive focus on the future.

There were several recommendations, all of which align with our campus
commitment to creating a student-centered university; we look forward to
engaging with the campus community in addressing these. Examples
include:

· Continued focus on the improvement recently seen in graduation
rates and in eliminating achievement gaps;
· Extended engagement in assessment of educational effectiveness
and integration of assessment results into routine program review
processes; and
· Development of new measures to evaluate teaching
effectiveness, as recommended by the recent Senate-Administration
Workgroup on Holistic Teaching Evaluation.

The WASC reaffirmation of accreditation letter and all other
accreditation materials are posted at http://accreditation.ucsd.edu. UC
San Diego’s next WASC accreditation cycle will occur 2029-30. An interim
report will be submitted to WASC in 2024, detailing progress on the
Review Team’s recommendations.
