Notice of Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Petitt’s Five-Year Review

In accordance with University and Regents policies requiring that Senior Management Group (SMG) members be reviewed every five years, I have initiated a formal five-year review of Becky Petitt, Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (VC-EDI). I am writing to update you on the process and invite you to provide input.

In consultation with the Academic Senate, I have appointed a committee to conduct a review of Vice Chancellor Petitt’s performance and to provide a report of its findings. The committee will be chaired by Vice Chancellor and Dean of Marine Sciences, Margaret Leinen.

The charge to the committee is to evaluate VC Petitt’s performance in the full spectrum of leadership responsibilities as Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Critical measures to be addressed in the review include Vice Chancellor Petitt’s

· leadership in creating, implementing and sustaining a holistic and integrated vision for all major equity, diversity and inclusion efforts throughout UC San Diego;

· establishment of collaborative partnerships throughout the campus and with external constituents, to catalyze change in this area;

· oversight and management of the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion;

· support and embodiment of UC San Diego’s mission including efforts and progress in outreach, recruitment, retention, and improved climate.

Input from a wide cross section of campus and community stakeholders will be essential to this process. In the coming weeks, the review committee will solicit feedback on Vice Chancellor Petitt’s performance and will strive to ensure the confidentiality of all respondents. You will receive another email from the review committee in the coming days inviting you to complete a brief online survey developed to assist with this review.
