CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Medical Center Drive South Improvements Project – Medical Center Drive South Weekend Road Closures

Project Location/Description:

UC San Diego has recently been involved with several important regional transportation improvement projects. These projects represent a significant benefit to the campus and community by improving traffic circulation and access for all UC San Diego stakeholders including visitors, patients, and the local community. One of these projects is the Medical Center Drive South Improvements Project, which is located on UC San Diego’s La Jolla Medical Center Campus, between the Gilman Bridge and Athena Circle intersection. The last major construction efforts for this project are the final asphalt placement and road striping. This work will occur over two weekends in late-June/early-July.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

This work requires a full road closure of Medical Center Drive South, between Athena Circle and the Gilman Bridge, over two weekends, June 27 – 28 and July 11 – 12 (Saturdays and Sundays). During this time, east and westbound vehicular and bicycle traffic will be detoured to Medical Center Drive North. The La Jolla Medical Center and Emergency Department will remain accessible at all times. Pedestrian access will be maintained on Medical Center Drive South during this work. Parking lot P753 will be unavailable on June 27 and July 11, but replacement parking will be provided in lot P759.

We are monitoring the impact of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and will address the needs of our medical centers as they are identified, with the priority being the health and safety of our patients, students, faculty, and staff.
