ALL SENATE FACULTY MEMBERS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Changemaker Faculty Fellows Program

We are pleased to announce the 2020 Changemaker Faculty Fellows Program.
The program is a collaboration between the Teaching + Learning Commons
Engaged Teaching and Experiential Learning Hubs, the Center for Student
Involvement, and the Changemaker Steering Committee. As an Ashoka
U-designated Changemaker Campus, UC San Diego recognizes the value of
community engaged service-learning in developing students and faculty as
leaders in social innovation and changemaking.

The purpose of the Fellowship is to support faculty who integrate
community engaged learning (CEL) into their teaching, research, and
public service at UC San Diego, and serve as campus leaders in CEL
pedagogy and community engagement. The Changemaker Faculty Fellows
Program develops a community of faculty engaged in CEL, and funds
projects to enhance existing or develop new CEL courses. Proposed
projects may focus on:

*Integration of CEL into a new or existing course
*Development of assessment tools or strategies for measuring the
impact of CEL courses on undergraduate learning outcomes, faculty,
or the community, or
*Community-based course research projects that contribute to
service-learning, civic engagement, and scholarship of engagement
literature, or that expand understanding of CEL within a discipline.

The program is currently open to all full-time UC San Diego Senate
faculty members with an interest in CEL. Proposals that integrate
opportunities for Changemaking in remote and hybrid learning
environments will be seriously considered. We encourage individual
faculty and interdisciplinary teams to apply for the Fellowship. Awards
are in the amount of $10,000 over two academic years ($7000 distributed
in the first year and $3000 distributed in the second year) to support
the development and implementation of a CEL project. Funds may be used
toward project implementation, or to provide additional professional
development support for participants.

Program requirements:
In addition to implementation of a CEL project, selected Changemaker
Faculty Fellows are expected to actively engage with the Changemaker
Faculty Fellows learning community through participation in a Faculty
Fellows retreat and regular meetings, and to demonstrate leadership as
mentors to future Fellows.

Applications will be accepted through July 24, 2020. Fellows will be
selected and notified by August 7, 2020. Applicants should submit an
application form including a project proposal and letter of support from
their Chair or Dean. A detailed program overview and application link is
