CONSTRUCTION ALERT – University Center Utility Relocation: North/South Closures of Russell Lane and Myers Drive Intersections Along Gilman Drive
Project Location/Description:
The construction of the University Center Utility Project will continue with the installation of underground utilities through the intersections of Russell Lane and Myers Drive along Gilman Drive. The installation of these utilities will require North/South closures of the Russell Lane and Myers Drive intersections but will maintain East/West, single lane, traffic flow at all times. This will help maximize construction efficiency and maintain public safety, while also minimizing intermittent impacts to pedestrian and vehicular traffic for the duration of the project.
Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:
* Russell Lane / Gilman Drive intersection: Left turns and North/South through-traffic prohibited from late July through late August.
* Myers Drive / Gilman Drive intersection: Left turns and North/South through-traffic prohibited from late August through late September.
These intersection closures will prohibit the North/South vehicular, pedestrian, and micro-mobility movements, but will maintain the East/West vehicular, pedestrian, and micro-mobility movements. Detour and traffic control signage will be in place where necessary for vehicles and pedestrians. The signal lights on Gilman Drive could intermittently be placed on flashing red to allow for construction activities and help ensure public safety. Please follow signage, flag persons instructions, and allow extra time while traveling on Gilman Drive. The Gilman Transit Center will remain operational throughout the project. Future impacts to the Library Walk crosswalk are also anticipated to occur this summer, during which time detours to nearby crosswalks will be provided. Additional work will occur on Russell Lane following the completion of the work on Gilman Drive.
