Passing of Stephanie Navrides, Former Chief Administrative Officer of ECE

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephanie Navrides on July 1, 2020, after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was 58.

Stephanie was born on April 28, 1962 in El Paso, Texas, and her family moved to San Diego in 1968. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1980. She then began her undergraduate studies as a UC San Diego student in Revelle College where she earned a BS degree in Management Science. During her first year, Stephanie got a job as a student worker, marking the beginning of a life-long career at UC San Diego that ultimately spanned forty glorious years. She worked in a number of departments across campus, including the School of Architecture, the Office of Academic Personnel Services, the Teacher Education Program, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Anthropology and, most recently, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

During her nearly seven year tenure as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, she built, led, and inspired an incredible team of staff members that supported the department through a period of significant expansion, including the addition of many new faculty members and a substantial growth in graduate enrollment. Stephanie also supported the department in many new initiatives, including the creation of new graduate specializations and a new summer research internship program for undergraduate and masters students.

Stephanie was an active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. She humbly served her church community in many capacities over the last thirty years.  She led numerous committees and was a former Sunday School Director/Instructor and Greek Dance Director. In addition, Stephanie was a founding member of Greek Orthodox Folk Dance Festival. She had a passion for youth ministry. Stephanie along with her husband were the Directors for the church’s Greek Orthodox Youth Association (GOYA) chapter for the past seven years. Stephanie took pride in her Orthodox faith and her Greek heritage and wanted to share that love with the younger generations.

Stephanie is survived by her husband, Bill, and their two children, John and Marina. She leaves behind countless friends and colleagues across campus who will forever remember her kindness, warmth, generosity and joyful energy. We are all richer for having known her.

We are creating a memorial book to present to Stephanie’s family. If you would like to contribute a message and/or photos for inclusion in this book, please complete this form at https://forms.gle/PKDmiNwBpduye6A86 by August 3.
