Improving the UC San Diego Experience for our Black Students, Staff, and Faculty

We write to provide an update to the campus community on our commitment to improve the campus experience for our Black community members by transforming policies, practices, structures, and other areas within our control.

We received statements of needs and demands from a number of campus constituents, notably, our Black Student Union, our Black medical students and residents, and our UC Black Affinity Groups. We have met with and are in communication with representatives of our Black Student Union. We are earnest in our desire to co-create with BSU leaders guiding principles, an agreed upon and unified strategy for moving forward, and a process for communicating progress with the broader campus community. A meeting to accomplish this has been scheduled.

We continue to meet with additional constituents to listen to and respond to the needs and opportunities that have been identified, as part of an ongoing dialogue. Several demands have already been met, and some will need to be further explored and need additional time to bring to fruition.

Our progress will be posted to our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion site in the coming days. We will provide an additional notice when this page is publicly published.

With Chancellor Khosla and his Cabinet’s commitment, we are resolute in transforming the campus experience for our Black community members. You may count on our unwavering commitment to continuously improve UC San Diego so that our Black students, faculty, and staff can thrive.
