CONSTRUCTION ALERT – University Center Utility Relocation: Temporary Closure of Russell Lane

Project Location/Description:

The construction of the University Center Utility Relocation Project will continue with the installation of underground utilities from Gilman Drive north on Russell Lane. This will require a temporary road closure of Russell Lane south of the west entrance to the Gilman Parking Structure, which will help to maintain public safety, minimize impacts to pedestrian/vehicular traffic, and maximize construction efficiency.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

The work is scheduled to begin August 25, 2020 and be completed by September 11, 2020, prior to the beginning of Fall Quarter. During this time, Russell Lane will be closed to vehicular traffic from Gilman Drive extending north to the Conrad Prebys Music Center loading dock entrance. Access to the Conrad Prebys Music Center loading dock will be maintained. While this portion of Russell Lane is closed, two-way vehicle traffic will be temporarily detoured to Myers Lane and Rupertus Lane. Pavement markings and signage will be adjusted along Rupertus Lane on August 24th, 2020 to allow for temporary two-way traffic throughout the duration of construction. This will impact the parking stalls immediately south of the Study Abroad Office and adjacent to the Rupertus Lane / Russell Lane intersection. Detour and traffic control signage will be in place where necessary for vehicles and pedestrians. The signal lights on Gilman Drive will remain in their current configuration to help ensure public safety. Please follow signage and allow extra time while traveling on Gilman Drive. The Gilman Transit Center will remain operational throughout the project.
