Wastewater Detection of SARS CoV-2
We are seeing the impact of the surge in COVID-19 positivity rates in our region, we have also identified a number of campus community members testing positive following the winter break, therefore it is not surprising that our early wastewater sampling and testing detection system has identified active virus in the wastewater outflow of 45 samplers during the last three days of waste water monitoring.
These signals are an early indication that individuals are shedding the virus. We write to encourage all individuals who used on-campus restroom facilities to take immediate advantage of testing and to be particularly vigilant about masking and social distancing during this time.
TAKE ACTION – GET TESTED
Self-administered testing is available for students and employees at multiple locations throughout campus visit returntolearn@ucsd.edu for details on locations and times. Vending machine with kits containing all materials for testing and instructions are now located across campus. Self-administered testing does NOT require an appointment and testing can be done at your convenience. Completed tests are returned to any of the pick-up locations and placed in the designated drop box.
Additional UC San Diego Heath testing sites are distributed throughout San Diego as well as the Price Center and Athena Circle for students and Campus employees. Testing at these locations requires an appointment which you can schedule your test through these links:
