We are pleased to announce UC San Diego's Changemaker Week, January 16 - 23, 2021.
Changemaker Week will showcase the outstanding changemaking work taking place across our campus. It will provide interested students, faculty, staff, and alumni the chance to explore opportunities for creating change through social enterprise development, community engagement, social justice, and service learning.
All events will be held virtually this year in alignment with UC San Diego’s comprehensive COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Activities will include a conversation with UC San Diego Changemaker Faculty Fellows; a screening and panel discussion of “Picture a Scientist,” a 2020 documentary that investigates the lack of women in STEM and chronicles women scientists in the U.S.; a talk on the global ethics of climate change, a panel of local Black-owned business owners; Black students discussing their vision for inclusion; and two book club discussions: Ibram X. Kendi’s How to be an Antiracist and Angela Davis’ Are Prisons Obsolete?
UC San Diego was named a Changemaker Campus in 2017 by Ashoka, the world's largest network of social innovators, for its commitment to campus-wide excellence in social innovation and changemaking. UC San Diego holds the distinction as the first UC campus to receive Changemaker designation for providing students with interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented skills to succeed in today's complex world. Fewer than 50 universities around the globe have earned this distinction. In 2020 UC San Diego launched the Changemaker Institute to further champion its changemaking efforts.
Please join me and our campus Change Champions in celebrating UC San Diego's leadership in social innovation and changemaking at Changemaker Week 2021.
