Updates from your CHRO

Dear Colleagues,

Last week I hosted our first Staff Town Hall of 2021. Our panel included UC San Diego medical experts who provided updates about the COVID-19 pandemic, including in-depth information about the vaccine rollout. If you weren’t able to join us, the recording of the event will soon be added to the Return to Learn website. Save the date for the next Staff Town Hall on Wednesday, February 17 at 1:30 p.m. Read on for additional updates and information for staff.

Health and Safety Updates

Stay home if you’re sick or having symptoms: When you do your daily symptom screening, be sure to report any symptoms you’re experiencing. If you are not cleared to come to campus, stay home and let your supervisor or manager know you will not be coming to work. Depending on your individual situation, you may be able to utilize different leave provisions to cover COVID-19 testing, illness and self-isolation after exposure. Review the information below and contact your department HR representative regarding next steps.
  • View an overview of the current COVID-19 leave provisions available to UC San Diego staff »
  • Read FAQs about COVID-19 leaves and related topics »
COVID-19 Testing: Regular testing of students, faculty and staff is one of our most critical tactics in detecting and preventing the transmission of COVID-19 in our campus community to the greatest extent possible. All of the testing below is available at no cost to employees.
  • First-Time Testing: Campus employees who have never been tested for COVID-19 at UC San Diego must conduct their first test by making an appointment online. After you have completed the appointment-based test, you are welcome to participate in self-administered testing using a kit available from campus vending machines. Schedule a campus employee COVID test appointment »
  • Required Testing: All UC San Diego employees (staff, faculty, research, clinical) who report to work on campus or at any physical worksite are required to get a COVID-19 test on a weekly basis. Tests are provided for free and during normal working hours. Learn more about required COVID-19 testing for on-site employees »
  • Asymptomatic Testing: All UC San Diego faculty, staff and student employees have access to voluntary, no-cost asymptomatic COVID-19 testing as often as weekly. Learn more about employee testing options »
Inclusive Excellence Awards

In October, we invited the UC San Diego community to submit nominations for the 2020 Inclusive Excellence Awards. Earlier this week we announced the award recipients – you can view the announcement here.

All UC San Diego community members are invited to attend the virtual 26th Annual Inclusive Excellence Awards ceremony on Tuesday, February 2 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Registration is not required. Please contact Equal Opportunity Services at eosaa@ucsd.edu if you have any questions.
