Invitation to Self-Identify Veteran Status, Disability Status, Race/Ethnicity, and Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation

UC San Diego is proud to foster a vibrant and inclusive workplace free of discrimination. As an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, we are committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce and empowering all employees to thrive. We recognize and celebrate the unique contributions that individuals from a broad range of backgrounds bring to our campus community.

To measure the effectiveness of UC San Diego’s efforts, to comply with requirements as a federal contractor, and to have the most accurate data about our diverse employee community, we would like to encourage you to self-identify your veteran status, disability status, race/ethnicity, and gender identity and sexual orientation.

Self-identification is voluntary and confidential, and is not used as the basis for any employment decisions. The information collected is used for statistical reporting to the federal government, accreditation bodies and grant-awarding agencies, as well as for internal benchmarking and review.

Career staff employees who have made a selection for each self-identify field in UCPath by Friday, February 5 will be entered in a gift card drawing. Any response selected, including “I don’t wish to answer,” will be counted as a selection and will qualify you for the drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who has access to the status information that employees have provided?
Self-ID status is considered confidential employee information. Your name and employee number is removed when used for reporting purposes.

How is this data utilized?
Each year the University is required to conduct various analyses of its workforce and develop an Affirmative Action Plan. The information being requested is critical to these analyses and reporting requirements.

What if I decline to state my status?
The invitation to self-identify your status is voluntary, and every employee has the option of choosing the "I DO NOT WISH TO ANSWER" option. Selecting this option will not affect your employment status.
