There is one week remaining in Open Enrollment. Have you logged into UCPath to make your benefit elections yet? If you're happy with your current benefit selection and do not plan on making changes or re-enrolling in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you should still review your Benefits Summary page on UCPath Online to ensure accuracy. Campus Health and Safety Updates
COVID-19 Booster Vaccines: Appointments for Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine boosters are now available for all eligible students and employees at drive-up locations at our La Jolla and Hillcrest Medical Centers. Booster vaccines will be available at the Price Center beginning next week. For more details and to schedule your vaccine booster appointment, visit the Return to Learn vaccine booster page.
Action Required for Symptom and Exposure Screening: The symptom screening tool was recently updated to simplify notifications to those who are required to complete a daily self-screening for COVID-19. The new process integrates symptom, exposure, vaccination status and asymptomatic screening requirements. All employees and students must re-register for the COVID-19 symptom and exposure screening form to confirm your contact information, if you have not done so since October 15, 2021. Learn more about symptom and exposure screening.
Submit Your Flu Vaccine Attestation: All UC San Diego employees and students are required to submit an attestation that they have received a flu vaccine or affirmatively decline influenza vaccination on or before November 19, 2021. Campus community members who decline to receive the flu vaccine will be required to wear masks or face coverings at UC locations through the end of the flu season even if COVID-19 requirements are loosened. Learn more about the flu vaccine requirement.
Updated Guidance for In-Person Events: Be sure to familiarize yourself with the updated guidance for hosting indoor meetings and events on campus. Changes include permitting food and beverage service at indoor and outdoor in-person gatherings (so long as all criteria are met) and allowing vaccinated attendees to be unmasked while actively eating or drinking. Event and meeting organizers are strongly encouraged to consider holding their events and meetings outdoors if food and drink are to be served and conditions allow. Learn more about event planning.
Wellness Programs and Opportunities
Winter Wellness Step Challenge: Are you up for a healthy challenge this winter season? The Winter Wellness Step Challenge is an 8-week program that challenges you to get more active starting Monday, November 15, 2021 and ending on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Participants will receive a weekly email with wellness tips to help you reach your step goals, opportunities to win prizes, and leaderboard updates. Register today to join the challenge.
Mindfulness Meditation Group: The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is pleased to introduce Mindful Pause, a new monthly group meeting that focuses on using practical approaches for applying mindfulness-based skills in our daily lives, including our working life. As an experiential group, sessions will include basic guided meditation exercises that can be utilized to help nurture more emotional calm, focus, and presence in your daily life.
Mindful Pause is hosted on the third Wednesday of the month from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and is facilitated by Dr. Bryan McNutt, PhD, LMFT, CEAP. The first session of the group is on Wednesday, November 17. Register for Mindful Pause.
Tritons Flourish: Looking to build your resilience and connect with fellow staff and faculty? Tritons Flourish is a monthly opportunity to come together in community to discuss skills and strategies to flourish while managing the many stressors we all face. Led by FSAP counselor William Youngblood, LMFT, Tritons Flourish meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at noon. Register for the next session, coming up on Thursday, November 18 at 12 p.m.
On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines
Founders Day: For 61 years, thinkers, doers and dare-to-dreamers at UC San Diego have championed the kind of discoveries and accomplishments you don't see every day. Come celebrate our anniversary and the uncommon spirit that has transformed UC San Diego into one of the top research institutions in the world at Founders Day on Tuesday, November 16 from 12 - 1 p.m. at Library Walk. Make sure to drop by the Staff Association tent for a special Triton Treat.
Customer Satisfaction Survey: The last day to participate in the UC San Diego Customer Satisfaction Survey is Friday, November 19. This annual survey provides key metrics that inform the services provided by core business units across campus. As a token of appreciation for participating in the survey, you’ll receive a voucher for your choice of a mug or a lunch bag, to be redeemed at the Campus Curbside Office located at the Gilman Parking Structure. Learn more.
Staff Town Hall: Our final Staff Town Hall of the year is slated for Wednesday, December 8 at 10:30 a.m. These monthly forums are a great opportunity to come together as a UC San Diego staff community for news and updates. Our panel of campus and health experts will be on hand to answer your questions about COVID-19, vaccines, campus health and safety guidelines, returning to on-site work and other important topics to staff. Register and submit your questions today.
Winter Holiday Schedule: UC San Diego (excluding the hospitals and clinics) will officially close for seven days between Thursday, December 23 and Friday, December 31, 2021, four of which are paid holidays. Staff employees must charge any working days during the closure period not covered by paid holidays to accrued vacation, accrued compensatory time off (non-exempt only), or leave without pay.
Non-represented staff also have the option to request a one-time advance of up to three (3) days of vacation to cover the absence. For exclusively represented employees, these closure days will be handled in accordance with the existing contract provisions or collective bargaining agreements where applicable.
