Updates from Human Resources

Our final Staff Town Hall of the year is coming up next week on Wednesday, December 8 at 10:30 a.m. Our panel of campus and health experts will be on hand to answer your questions about COVID-19, vaccines and boosters, campus health and safety guidelines, flexible work arrangements and other important topics to staff. Register and submit your questions today.

In addition to answering your questions, we’ll also take some time to recognize and celebrate accomplishments in our staff community over the past year. Whether it’s a professional achievement or a personal success, Human Resources wants to know what you are feeling proud about as the year comes to a close. Use this form to share your accomplishments so we can shine a spotlight on your success.

Return to Learn Updates

COVID-19 Booster Vaccines: Appointments for COVID-19 vaccine boosters are now available for all UC San Diego students and employees. To be eligible to receive a booster, it must be at least six months since you completed your Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series, or two months since you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. For more details and to schedule your vaccine booster appointment, visit the Return to Learn vaccine booster page.

Quick and Convenient COVID-19 Testing: Testing for COVID-19 is available to all campus community members through UC San Diego Health at no cost to you. As a reminder, employees who are unvaccinated and who work on-site are required to participate in twice-weekly testing (every 3-5 days).
  • First time testing at UC San Diego: If you have not yet had a COVID-19 test through UC San Diego, you must schedule a provider-administered test appointment at the Price Center or a UC San Diego Health drive-up location. Schedule your COVID-19 test appointment.
  • Using COVID-19 test kit vending machines: After you’ve had at least one COVID-19 test with UC San Diego, you can use the convenient test kit vending machines on campus. Using your employee ID card, pick up a test from a vending machine, follow the instructions and drop it off within 72 hours. Learn more about self-administered testing for employees, including vending machine locations.
Flexible Work Arrangements: UC San Diego staff employees have more flexibility in their work arrangements than ever before, including increased opportunities for remote and hybrid work and flexibility in work schedule. As we near the end of the calendar year, it's a good time to reflect on your flexible work arrangement and how it’s working for you and your department. What is going well and where might you need to make adjustments? As a reminder, all employees must update the Work Location Status Form any time they make changes to their regular schedule or work location.

Get Involved in Our Staff Community

“COVID-19: What Now?” with the Black Staff Association: Join campus community members on Monday, December 6 from 12 - 1:30 p.m. for a conversation, hosted by the Black Staff Association, about the COVID-19 pandemic and the way it is exacerbating disparities experienced by the Black community. The conversation will feature Dr. Cheryl Anderson, professor and dean of UC San Diego’s Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health.

Recognizing that the pandemic is affecting everything from work/life balance to finances to mental health, the event will also focus on healing for the mind and body, including a Jingle Joy Jam session with DJ King Britt from the Department of Music. This event is open to all.  Register for this event.

Social Session - Women’s Basketball Game vs. Cal Baptist: The Staff Association invites you to show your spirit with staff colleagues as our Triton women’s basketball team takes on Cal Baptist on Tuesday, December 14 at noon in RIMAC Arena. No tickets are required; just bring your campus ID for admission and to receive a free UC San Diego branded reusable cup. Note: COVID-19 Spectator Requirements include masking and showing proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.

Triton Treats - Hot Chocolate and Desserts: Get into the spirit of the season with the Staff Association by picking up some hot chocolate and seasonal desserts at the next installment of Triton Treats on Thursday, December 16. Swing by the Multipurpose Room in the Student Services Center  from 12 - 1:30 to grab a treat and win prizes.

On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines

CUCSA Town Hall: The Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) invites all University of California staff to a systemwide town hall on Wednesday, December 15 at 12 p.m. This is your opportunity to meet this year’s CUCSA delegation and learn about the group’s priorities and work to address issues facing UC staff. Register for the CUCSA Town Hall.
