Library Services Available During Campus Holiday Closure

Geisel Library will close on Sunday, December 19 at 8 p.m., and the Biomedical Library Building will close on Wednesday, December 22 at 6 p.m. Both Library buildings will reopen Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 10 a.m. See the Library hours webpage for current and future building hours, and access the reserve a space page to make reservations for January 2 and beyond.

Online resources such as electronic journals, electronic books, and
databases are always available by logging into the campus’s Virtual Private Network (VPN). More information about Library services available during the campus holiday closure can be found on our website.

The Library is currently accepting course reserve requests for Winter Quarter 2022 at reserves.ucsd.edu. Requests submitted after Wednesday, December 15 may not be available for student use until after winter quarter instruction has begun.

During the holiday closure, limited information and research assistance is available through the Library's 24/7 online chat service, with questions answered by librarians from non-UC libraries. In addition, the following resources and tools can provide self-help assistance:

After the holiday closure, you’ll notice some changes at Geisel Library as we work to renovate the 2nd (main) Floor. Alternate entrances will be to the left and right of the current main entrance, and signs will guide users to specific areas and points of service.

Please Note: There will be no reduction in seating or changes to the building’s hours during the renovation process. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve Geisel’s lobby and main corridor. For more information about the project, visit our website.
