Timely Warning – Aggravated Assault (Update to Dec. 13, 2020 Incident)

The UC San Diego Police Department would like to update our community regarding the incident first reported in a Timely Warning on December 13, 2020 (see below). During the course of our investigation, UC San Diego police officers were able to identify the suspect in this case as a person that frequents the University City area. Based on this identification, UC San Diego police detectives filed an arrest warrant for the suspect. In conjunction with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, the suspect in this investigation was arrested on Saturday, January 30, 2021, as he was attempting to enter Mexico. At this time, we believe that there are no outstanding suspects in this case. The UC San Diego Police Department continues to recommend following the safety precautions listed in the original bulletin (see below). Timely Warning – Aggravated Assault

On December 12, 2020 at 10:00 pm, the UC San Diego Police Department received a report of an aggravated assault that occurred at the Sun God Lawn area at 9:50 pm. The reporting party stated that the suspect grabbed her and struck her multiple times. The suspect is described as a male, approximately 60 years old, about 5'10, medium build, long gray hair, wearing a dark hooded long sleeved track suit.
The suspect has not been apprehended and the investigation is on-going.

Report suspicious activity immediately to the UC San Diego Police Department by calling 9-1-1.
Use the UC San Diego Safety Escort Program. Call (858) 534-WALK, available daily from dusk to dawn.
Whenever possible, travel well-lit, busy routes. Avoid walking or parking in shadowed areas. Have your keys in your hand as you approach your door.
Know the location of Campus Emergency Telephones on routes to and from campus destinations.
