UC San Diego’s Earth Month Celebration

UC San Diego has been shaped by exceptional scholars who challenge expectations to make our world better, including pioneers of climate change research like Roger Revelle and geochemist Charles David Keeling of the “Keeling Curve.” During April, the campus will host events designed to educate and engage the community while we celebrate the planet and highlight the actions that we are taking to achieve our climate goals.

For the sixth consecutive year, UC San Diego’s activities surrounding Earth Day incorporate a month-long series of events. This year’s theme of Resilience is the inspiration for these virtual events, which include:
  • The Inter-Sustainability Council’s Sixth Annual Green Talks Symposium
  • Climate Intersections: Here and Now hosted by GPSA Climate Action & Policy Committee (CAP)
  • California Climate Action Summit hosted by CALPIRG Students at UC San Diego
  • A week of events around “DEMYSTIFYING Environmental Justice” hosted by ASUCSD’s Office of Environmental Justice Affairs
  • Campus tree plantings on Earth Day and Arbor Day
  • Daily Actions with Impactree - co-founded by Jarrod Russell ’07 & ’11, Impactree is a hub-based engagement platform that shares easy online actions to help people contribute to social change and take collective action
  • Art Competitions
  • Trivia Nights
For details, view the full events calendar.

In order to allow employees the opportunity to participate in a UC San Diego Earth Month activity, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved. We encourage all managers and supervisors to allow employees to attend, as long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

Sustainability plays an integral part in UC San Diego’s education, research and campus operations. To learn more about our continuing efforts, visit sustain.ucsd.edu.
