Participation on the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues (CAC GISOI)

UC San Diego Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues is seeking new student, faculty, and staff members for 2021-2023. The CAC GISOI was formed in 1994 and comprises representatives from faculty, staff, and students at UC San Diego and UC San Diego Health.

The Committee's current charges include recommending changes which improve transgender access and inclusion in all UC San Diego facilities, policies and practices; advising on LGBTQIA+ issues in Health Sciences to recommend enhancements to inclusive policies and practices throughout the organization; and providing counsel regarding data collection and analysis in relation to understanding and improving the experiences of LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff. The Committee Chair or representative also holds a voting seat on the UC San Diego Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Council.

Selection criteria for potential committee members include: demonstrated support of the UC San Diego Principles of Community; willingness to serve on the Committee on the Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues for a two-year term (one-year renewable for students); skills, experiences and background that help the CAC GISOI in meeting one or more of the Committee's charges; the ability to attend quarterly committee meetings; the ability to serve at least 5 hours per quarter to attend to committee work; and sensitivity to issues of diverse genders and sexualities. Benefits of committee membership include professional development, community fellowship, and service to the institution.

Commitments include:

New member orientation in May/June of 2021, exact date scheduled based on availability, for two hours
Summer Retreat on September 1, 2021, from 10am-4pm.
Fall meeting, Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 1-3pm
Winter meeting, Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 1-3pm
Spring meeting, Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 1-3pm

Participation on this committee is not required and therefore does not implicate any workload equivalencies or other assigned duties.
