ALL CAMPUS STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO (excluding UC San Diego Health)
Return to Campus Planning Update
UC San Diego is working thoughtfully and strategically to consider our return to campus through the lens of innovation, equity and flexibility. We know how important this issue is to our staff and we wanted to provide you with information about key decisions and timeframes in this memo as well as invite you to attend the Staff Town Hall on Tuesday, April 20 at 2 p.m. at which there will be an opportunity for further discussion.
Here are the most important aspects:
Between now and June 1, our staff will continue in their current work arrangements as they have during the pandemic. Between June 1 and September 1, our Return to Campus will be implemented based on three guiding principles:
First, timing will be driven by operational needs and the recognition that operational needs differ across units and some employees may return to campus sooner than September 1.
Second, our operating models for the fall will reflect the lessons learned during the pandemic, in particular about new ways to best deliver services while offering opportunities for greater flexibility for our staff, including those who have been in-person, who have worked in hybrid arrangements and those who have been fully remote.
Third, within these parameters, managers will do their best to provide thirty (30) days’ advance notice of changes to current work arrangements, and afford flexibility for staff.
After September 1, we will continue to reimagine the workplace in the spirit of continuous improvement. These new models are informed by your ideas and contributions and we encourage you to share your voice by completing the survey and participating in the IdeaWave.
