Updates from your CHRO

Dear Colleagues,

Tomorrow, I have the honor of hosting our Spring Service Awards ceremony, recognizing 295 UC San Diego staff members who have reached milestones from ten to 50 years of service. When employees choose to stay at UC San Diego and dedicate their careers to our mission, as our Service Award recipients have done, it’s a testament to the strong and vibrant workplace community we’ve built together.

I invite you to join us for the Spring Service Awards as we celebrate our colleagues. Registration is not required. Click this link tomorrow, Thursday, April 29, at 3 p.m. to attend the ceremony. Read on for more updates and important information for staff.

Return to Campus Updates

Return to Campus Planning Update: Last week I provided an update to campus staff about the principles and considerations guiding our ongoing conversations about gradually redensifying campus and ramping up on-site operations.

Between now and June 1, our staff will continue in their current work arrangements as they have during the pandemic. Between June 1 and September 1, our gradual Return to Campus will be implemented based on the following considerations:
  • Timing will be driven by operational needs and the recognition that operational needs differ across units and some employees may return to campus sooner than September 1.
  • Our operating models for the fall will reflect the lessons learned during the pandemic, in particular about new ways to best deliver services while offering opportunities for greater flexibility for our staff, including those who have been in-person, who have worked in hybrid arrangements and those who have been fully remote.
  • Within these parameters, managers will do their best to provide thirty (30) days’ advance notice of changes to current work arrangements, and afford flexibility for staff.
Share Your Voice: As UC San Diego continues making plans for a safe and gradual return to full campus operations, I encourage you to take advantage of opportunities to share your voice. Our staff survey, “Learning Lessons from the Pandemic - Reimagining the Workplace”, is open through Friday, May 14. You can also share your thoughts and ideas about embracing a new vision for our workplace via our IdeaWave campaign.

Weekly Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing Requirement: As a reminder, staff coming to campus who have been fully vaccinated (i.e. at least two weeks after your final dose of vaccine) are no longer required to test weekly. If you currently visit campus at least once per week and are not fully vaccinated, you are still required to get tested every seven days. Learn more about required COVID-19 testing »

Schedule Your COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment: Vaccination appointments are available for all UC San Diego employees on campus at RIMAC. To schedule your appointment, click “Register and check my eligibility” on California’s My Turn website. Complete the “Confirm eligibility” screen and then enter the La Jolla campus zip code 92093 when prompted. Scroll to “Other locations” to find the RIMAC vaccination site. Follow the prompts to schedule your appointment at RIMAC.
