She also oversees a number of central units including staff and academic HR and a growing shared services center. Her pivotal accomplishments at UW include leadership of a comprehensive reorganization to streamline business operations, which resulted in the development of a school-wide shared Services Center. She has also led department-wide Lean Six Sigma initiatives that have resulted in significant savings, shepherded efforts to enhance staff diversity, equity, and inclusion across the departments, and most recently led the operational effort of the school’s COVID-19 Back-to-Work readiness plan.

I am deeply appreciative of the inclusive leadership of Sylvia Lepe-Askari, Assistant Vice Chancellor in the Campus Budget Office and Alison Sanders, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, who co-chaired the search advisory committee and ensured that all voices were heard throughout the selection process. I am also grateful to the members of the search advisory committee for their thoughtful contributions and insights, which have contributed to in a successful outcome.
Please join me in warmly welcoming Marie Carter-Dubois to UC San Diego. Her deep understanding of the strategic, financial, and administrative challenges facing academic institutions and her creative leadership approach will serve Academic Affairs and our university well.
