MEMBERS OF THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMIC SENATE, SAN DIEGO DIVISION
June 1, 2021 Representative Assembly Meeting
Dear Colleagues:
The sixth and final meeting of the 2020-21 academic year is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held via Zoom. Representative Assembly members will receive the Zoom link directly. If you are a Senate member who is not an Assembly Representative and you would like to attend the meeting, please RSVP to Ashley Welch at awelch@ucsd.edu to obtain the login instructions. All Senate members are welcome to attend.
The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents are available on the following webpages.
Although the meeting will start at 3:30, we are asking meeting participants to begin logging in at 3:15 to allow time for each participant to be admitted into the meeting. We also ask that your Zoom name match your real name, so that you may be identified. The meeting materials include this and other important Zoom information for this meeting.
We have a very full agenda this meeting, and I anticipate that the meeting will run long. Chancellor Khosla will address the Assembly, and two guest speakers will discuss Commenced Academic Activity and the Bookstore’s New Pilot Textbook Distribution System. The 2020-2021 Distinguished Research Awards will be presented as a consent item, and the following proposals will be presented:
Proposal to Amend Regulation 715, Requirements for the PhD Degree at San Diego, and Regulation 717, Requirements for the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree.
Proposal to Establish a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, with a Terminal MS Degree Option.
Proposal to Discontinue the Master of Advanced Studies in Simulation-Based Engineering (SE79) and the Master of Advanced Studies in Structural Health Monitoring (SE78) in the Department of Structural Engineering.
Proposal to Amend San Diego Divisional Bylaw 170, Committee on Academic Freedom.
Proposal to Establish Eighth College.
Proposal to Reorganize the General Campus into Schools and Establish the Schools of Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences at UC San Diego.
Proposal to Amend San Diego Senate Manual Appendix 5.6, Bylaws of the Faculty of Sixth College.
Resolution: Fossil Free Power Generation at UCSD Campus.
Resolution: Senate Oversight of Housing & Other Planning Decisions.
As large Zoom meetings do not lend themselves to free-flowing discussion, I ask that you please review the meeting materials in advance of the meeting and send questions to academicsenateoffice@ucsd.edu with the agenda topic number in the subject line of the email, by Friday morning, May 28th. Your questions will be shared with the presenters so that they may be prepared to discuss them in advance.
Primary Representatives and Alternate Representatives should coordinate their attendance and voting for this meeting. Both may attend; however, Alternate Representatives may only vote in the absence of the Primary Representative. Please coordinate who will attend and cast votes, in advance of the meeting.
Stay healthy,
