Dear Colleagues,
Later this month we’ll celebrate Juneteenth, the annual holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Over the past year, we have had a number of opportunities to engage in conversation as a community about anti-Black racism and what it means to be actively anti-racist. As we continue this work together, recognizing Juneteenth and learning more about its origins and legacy are great ways to shine a spotlight on the rich history and traditions of Black Americans.
The Black Staff Association (BSA) is hosting their Juneteenth Celebration and Black Excellence Awards on Thursday, June 17 from 2:30 - 4 p.m. The virtual program will celebrate the vibrancy and creativity of Black culture and express appreciation for the Black Excellence exemplified by Black staff across campus. The event is open to the entire UC San Diego community of staff, faculty, students, friends and supporters. Register for the Black Staff Association Juneteenth Celebration and Black Excellence Awards »

Return to Campus
Plans are underway for a safe and gradual return to full campus operations this fall. Over the next few months, staff who have been remote or hybrid will receive information and potential options about their work arrangements for fall readiness. As part of this transition, we are developing new guidelines and resources to help supervisors and employees find success in establishing and implementing flexible work arrangements, such as hybrid work, remote work and alternative schedules.
If you are awaiting further guidance about your work arrangement or if you have recently begun conversations with your supervisor, I encourage you to review the Key Considerations for Employees checklist, which will help you approach these conversations thoughtfully.
Staff Town Hall: The next Staff Town Hall is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30 from 2 - 3 p.m. We’ll have a panel of health and campus experts on hand to answer your questions about the pandemic, returning to campus and other important topics to staff. This month’s town hall will feature Josh Kavanagh, Executive Director of UC San Diego Transportation, to answer your questions about parking, campus shuttles and more. We’ll also review the results of the Learning Lessons from the Pandemic - Reimagining the Workplace Survey and the Reimagining the Workplace IdeaWave campaign. Register and submit your questions today »
Return to Campus Support Desk: If you have questions about returning to campus for on-site work, contact the Return to Campus Support Desk at hr@ucsd.edu or (858) 246-3570. Please note that if you have not yet received instructions or information regarding the work arrangement for your role, the Support Desk should be used for more general questions. The Support Desk is not able to provide detailed individual information in advance of your supervisor or other leader in your area.
Review and Comment on the Flexible Work Arrangements Policy: UC San Diego is proposing a Flexible Work Arrangements Policy, which will be applicable to all UC San Diego staff employees. The policy defines and outlines the guidelines for flexible work arrangements. Employees covered by this policy are invited to review and submit comments to hr@ucsd.edu by July 7.
Mental Health and Well-Being Resources for Staff
