Updates from your CHRO

Last week Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States, was declared a federal holiday and shortly after, announced as a UC holiday by President Michael V. Drake. This year, we will observe Juneteenth as a paid UC holiday on Monday, June 28. Heading into our inaugural Juneteenth holiday weekend, I encourage you to reflect on the history and significance of this holiday and to consider the work that lies ahead of us, as a community, to combat systemic racism and build a more just and equitable society.

Campus staff who work in roles with 24-hour operations or who are not otherwise able to take the day off due to operational needs will be entitled to holiday pay in accordance with UC policy or the applicable CBA. Depending on how you submit your timekeeping, your HR contact may need to make adjustments if you have already logged June 28 as vacation pay. Please note: due to the Monday holiday, weekly Benefits Orientation has been postponed one day and will be held on Tuesday, June 29. View the Benefits Orientation schedule »

Return to Campus

Staff Town Hall: Our monthly Staff Town Hall is coming up next week on Wednesday, June 30 at 2 p.m. This month’s town hall will feature Josh Kavanagh, Executive Director of UC San Diego Transportation, who will give an update about parking options, campus transportation and more. We’ll also review the results of the Learning Lessons from the Pandemic - Reimagining the Workplace Survey and the Reimagining the Workplace IdeaWave campaign.

Our panel of health and campus experts will be on hand to answer your questions about the pandemic, vaccines, returning to campus and other timely topics. Be sure to submit your questions when you register so we can provide the most relevant information to our staff community. Register and submit your questions today »

Transitioning the Workplace: As pandemic-related restrictions are gradually being lifted, it’s exciting to see some sense of normalcy on the horizon. This time also represents a significant transition for many and can bring up heightened feelings of stress and anxiety. To support a healthy return to public life and work together on-site and in hybrid forms, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is hosting a weekly Transitioning the Workplace discussion group.

This is a great opportunity to come together in community to discuss your experiences during this time of transition and to learn about strategies to bolster your resilience and adaptability. The group is hosted weekly on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and is facilitated by an FSAP counselor. Learn more and register »

Required Training for On-Site Work: If you are working on site, whether fully or as part of a hybrid work schedule, you must complete COVID-19 prevention training, as required by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Cal/OSHA. Please review details about this new training requirement on Blink, as you may need to take a COVID-19 Prevention course or a supplemental course.

New Family-Friendly Benefits for UC Employees

Earlier this week, I shared information about some exciting new benefits to support employees in taking time off to care for a family member or bond with a new child. Effective July 1, the Pay for Family Care and Bonding program will give eligible employees the option to replace some of their income during approved leave and the Adoption Assistance Plan will offer reimbursement for eligible adoption-related expenses.
