Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a strategic relocation of all postdoctoral affairs staff and support functions to the office of the Dean of The Graduate Division. This organizational transition represents a change in reporting lines in an effort to build synergism between resources and career development programs for graduate students and post-doctoral scholars; there will be no diminution of postdoctoral-focused staffing or office fiscal support.
This transition will allow postdoctoral affairs to become a more prominent focus for the Dean of Graduate Division, as well as the Executive Vice Chancellor, retaining focused support for professional development needs of postdoctoral scholars. In turn, the Office of Research Affairs will more fully dedicate resources to supporting the burgeoning needs of visiting scholars and academic researchers. Research Affairs and the Graduate Division are pleased to work together on this shift to ensure a seamless process for all.
With over 1,200 postdoctoral scholars, UC San Diego currently has one of the largest populations of postdoctoral scholars of premiere academic institutions in the nation. As such, postdoctoral scholars play a pivotal role in our developmental efforts to build leaders of the future and help the university achieve its education and research missions. The university aims to grow overall support of postdoctoral scholars, and further enhance postdoctoral scholar-focused professional development. Our goal is to make UC San Diego the most desired university to pursue a postdoctoral appointment. Where appropriate, we will also seek natural synergies that exist between the simultaneous goals of supporting advanced doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars.
Please join us in thanking the staff of the Office of Postdoctoral & Research Scholar Affairs for their dedication and commitment to postdoctoral scholars.
