Federal, state and county COVID-19 guidelines and recommendations have changed in recent weeks. UC San Diego is committed to following these guidelines and recommendations.
For employees who are working on campus, California OSHA rules require that employers implement a system of verifying employees’ vaccination status before masking requirements for fully vaccinated employees may be relaxed.
In addition, UC San Diego is also awaiting final details on the implementation of the proposed UC COVID Vaccine Mandate. The Office of the President is expected to communicate these details in mid-July.
We anticipate communicating additional updates before the end of July. We ask for your continued patience and vigilance.
In the meantime, UC San Diego employees who are working on campus, regardless of vaccine status, must continue to wear a face covering indoors. Exceptions include (1) when eating and drinking* and (2) when working alone in a closed office. For a full list of exceptions to indoor masking, visit the Return to Learn website. *While indoor dining for fully vaccinated individuals is permitted at campus eateries and restaurants, we encourage employees and students who would like to eat together to do so outside.
Physical distancing protocols for campus have ended, unless an area or group is specifically directed otherwise. Further updates to campus safety policies will be communicated via campus notice and on the Return to Learn Campus Safety webpage.
Response Flexibility
The infrastructure UC San Diego built during the pandemic is still in place. We encourage everyone in our campus community to continue testing, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing.
Vaccination Appointments Available
Vaccination provides the most effective way to prevent the spread of any variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Vaccinations for students, faculty and staff are available at the Price Center on campus, at UC San Diego Health’s vaccination station in Hillcrest, or at many pharmacies and other locations. More information and appointment instructions are available on our Return to Learn Vaccination webpage. UC San Diego Health employees should refer to the Pulse Intranet for specific information.
Research Ramp-Up Reminder
All research undertaken in UC San Diego facilities requires approval of a Research Ramp-Up Plan, listing all personnel who are working on site. Masks are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status, for all campus personnel.
