Search for the Vice Chancellor for Advancement | |
UC San Diego is pleased to invite nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Advancement. We have enlisted the assistance of a leading executive search firm (Isaacson, Miller) to help us manage the search process. Carol Chang, Emerita Past Chair of the UC San Diego Foundation Board of Trustees, has agreed to chair the Search Advisory Committee, whose members are listed below.

The VCA reports directly to the Chancellor and serves as the Executive Vice President of the UC San Diego Foundation. The VCA works closely and regularly with all academic vice chancellors: Executive Vice Chancellor - Academic Affairs, Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, Vice Chancellor for Marine Sciences, and the Chief Executive Officer for UC San Diego Health as well as all Vice Chancellors. The VCA serves on the Chancellor’s Cabinet, advises the Chancellor, EVC, VCHS, VCMS, and CEO on advancement/development and alumni matters for faculty and students, fundraising-related budget priorities and resource allocations; advocates for equity, diversity and inclusion within Advancement and its six branches at UC San Diego.
The VCA has overall managerial responsibility for UC San Diego's development and alumni engagement enterprise. The VCA manages the overall fundraising administration and initiatives; coordinates and administers policies, procedures, and activities which enhance and further develop engagement initiatives on the campus; and oversees six branches of advancement/development:
- Advancement Operations and Campaign
- Advancement Services
- Alumni, Annual Giving and Pipeline Development
- Health Sciences Advancement
- Leadership Strategy and Engagement
- University Development
The VCA fosters interaction with alumni, donors, UC San Diego community members, state, and private agencies and with foundations and industry to promote campus fundraising opportunities and initiatives; coordinates campus policies and practices related to university interaction with industry; creates new opportunities for enhancing fundraising activities and provides leadership and direction for all university fundraising campaigns and transformational initiatives.
Through a series of listening sessions with various constituencies on campus to be held beginning in August, the search firm will develop a comprehensive position profile that includes challenges and opportunities for the next VCA. The Search Advisory Committee will begin reviewing candidates soon after the position profile is developed and will continue until the position is filled.
