Updates from your CHRO

Dear Colleagues,
Tomorrow I have the honor of hosting the 2020-2021 Exemplary Staff Employee of the Year award program. I invite all members of the UC San Diego community to join us at our virtual event on Thursday, July 29 at 3 p.m. as we recognize and celebrate our honorees and all they have accomplished. Registration is not required. Use this link to join the event.

UC Vaccine Policy
The University of California recently approved a policy that requires all students, faculty and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before they will be allowed on campus or in a facility or office. Individuals must show proof of vaccination two weeks before they are expected to be on campus for the fall term. Details about UC San Diego’s local implementation process for the vaccine mandate are forthcoming, including:
  • How to provide your vaccine status
  • The role of supervisors in this process
  • How to request an exemption or deferral
  • Who to contact with questions and concerns
Until further details and instructions are shared, please do not submit any documentation related to the UC vaccine mandate. Keep an eye out for more information in coming weeks.
Employee Vaccine Mandate Town Hall: Join us for a special town hall focusing on the UC vaccine mandate for employees on Wednesday, August 11 from 1 - 2 p.m. Register and submit your questions.

Get Your COVID-19 Vaccine: It’s quick and easy to get your COVID-19 vaccine at the Price Center on campus at no cost to you. Appointments are required and employees must present their ID badge. Make your appointment using the UC San Diego vaccine scheduler. You can also schedule a vaccine appointment using California’s MyTurn website or the CDC’s VaccineFinder website.
Return to Campus
Required Training for On-Site Work: If you are working on site, whether fully or as part of a hybrid work schedule, you must complete COVID-19 prevention training, as required by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Cal/OSHA. Please review details about this new training requirement on Blink, as you may need to take a COVID-19 Prevention course or a supplemental course.
Work Location Status Form: All UC San Diego employees are required to complete and submit the Work Location Status Form, providing information about your work schedule and location. It’s important for UC San Diego to maintain an accurate database of this information in support of space planning, regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness. Learn more and find step-by-step instructions on Blink.
Return to Campus Support Desk: If you have questions about returning to campus and you’re not sure where to direct them, contact the Return to Campus Support Desk. Staff from the RTC Support Desk can offer guidance and put you into contact with the Return to Campus lead for your department. The RTC Support Desk is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Contact the desk by phone at (858) 246-3570 or by email at hr@ucsd.edu.
On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines
Staff Town Hall: Our next Staff Town Hall is scheduled for Tuesday, August 31 at 2 p.m. Our panel of health and campus experts will be on hand to answer your questions about the pandemic, the vaccine, returning to campus, and more. If you’ve got questions for campus leaders, I encourage you to submit them when you register. Your input is vital in helping us provide the most timely and relevant information to staff. Register and submit your questions »
Transitioning the Workplace Discussion Group: To support a healthy return to public life and work together, both on-site and in hybrid forms, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is hosting a weekly discussion group. This is a great opportunity to come together in community to discuss your experiences during this time of transition and to learn about strategies to bolster your resilience and adaptability. The group is hosted weekly on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and is facilitated by an FSAP counselor. Register for the Transitioning the Workplace discussion group »
A Farewell
As Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Pierre Ouillet shared at our Staff Town Hall last week, I am transitioning from my role as Chief Human Resources Officer effective August 2. As I reflect on my time as your CHRO over the past three years, I am amazed at all we have accomplished together. I have been inspired, especially over the past year and half, by the tremendous amount of dedication, creativity and resilience I see in UC San Diego staff.
While this week marks the end of my time as CHRO, I will remain your UC San Diego colleague until I retire at the end of 2021 as Special Advisor to the Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer. It has truly been a great privilege to be your colleague and serve as your Chief Human Resources Officer.
Warmly,
Nancy
