Project Purpose
This project will provide a vehicular turnaround on Russell Lane, just south of Rupertus Lane, to accommodate passenger drop off and pick up in anticipation of the UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley opening in November 2021. The turnaround will create a safer pedestrian and micromobility experience around the University Center area of campus.
Location and Duration
The project will begin construction in mid-August 2021 with a target completion of mid-September 2021. Construction will require Russell Lane to be closed to all vehicular traffic just south of the Rupertus Lane intersection.
Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
- Vehicular access and egress to the Gilman Parking Structure will be maintained from Russell Lane.
- Rupertus Lane will become a two-way road to provide access to and from Russell Lane north of Rupertus Lane.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the area with minor impacts to sidewalks on Russell Lane.
Please observe all temporary traffic controls and crewmember instructions. Please reduce speeds and allow extra space when traveling adjacent to construction activity. See a map of the affected area.
