Staff Celebration: Triton Staff Reunited
The Staff Summer Celebration is one of UC San Diego’s signature staff appreciation events. Hosted by the Staff Association and the Office of the Chancellor, the annual tradition is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on staff and celebrate the many ways staff contribute to UC San Diego’s mission.
This year, the Staff Association is hosting a series of events starting in August and leading up to Homecoming Week. Here are some of the events slated for the coming weeks:
- Celebrate the Night: On Wednesday, August 18, we’re celebrating and honoring the essential contributions of UC San Diego’s evening and night staff members with food, games and prizes.
- Triton Trivia: Join fellow UC San Diego staff and compete for prizes on Thursday, August 19 from 12-1 p.m. for some lunchtime pop culture and general knowledge trivia. Register »
- Cabinet Conversation with Chancellor Khosla: Get to know Chancellor Pradeep Khosla at the next installment of Cabinet Conversations on Tuesday, September 14 at 10 a.m. Register and submit your questions »

Return to Campus
Staff Town Hall: Our monthly Staff Town Hall is coming up on Tuesday, August 31 at 2 p.m. We’ll have a panel of health and campus experts on hand to answer your questions about COVID-19, vaccines, returning to campus and other timely topics. This month’s town hall will also feature the first in a series of updates about new campus eateries. Register and submit your questions today »
Focusing on Fall Readiness: As we near the beginning of the fall quarter, leaders and supervisors should review your department plans to recalibrate as necessary as you prepare your unit for fall readiness. Remember, your area's return date is predicated upon UC San Diego’s mission as an organization and your unit's role in supporting that mission. A return to campus date of September 1 is a general guideline, but is not mandatory for every unit. Departments should make plans for staff work modalities that support readiness for your fall operations.
Indoor Meeting Guidance: New information is now available for those planning on attending indoor meetings on campus. There is no participant limit at this time. Further guidelines will be available soon about holding large-scale indoor and outdoor events.
- Every attendee must be masked.
- No attendee is required to provide proof of vaccination status.
- No drink or food is to be consumed at an indoor meeting.
- Participants, attendees and organizers include all categories of campus constituents: students, employees, guests, contractors and volunteers.
- Organizers should provide a remote meeting attendance option when hosting an in-person meeting.
Transitioning the Workplace: The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is pleased to share that the Transitioning the Workplace weekly discussion group has been extended through September. The group meets every Tuesday from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. for a facilitated discussion about returning to on-site work and life together. This is a great opportunity to come together in community and learn about resources and tools to build your resilience. Learn more and register »
Convenient Dining with Triton2Go: Faculty and staff returning to campus can take advantage of the convenient Triton2Go program. Browse menus, order online using a credit/debit card or Triton Cash and participate in the innovative, environmentally friendly reusable container program. Simply follow the instructions for downloading the app, and upon checkout, select your credit/debit card or Triton Cash under payment options.
University of California Vaccine Mandate
If you need guidance or technical assistance in providing your proof of vaccination, contact the UC San Diego COVID Vaccine Mandate Responsible Office at SDVaxRO@ucsd.edu.
Note on Compliance Timeline: While Monday, September 6 is the deadline for compliance with the UC vaccine requirement, we recognize that employees may need additional time to comply with the requirement by either getting vaccinated or receiving approval on an exception or deferral request. Staff, faculty and students will not be barred from campus beginning September 6. Supervisors and other leaders will work individually with campus community members who may need additional time to comply with the policy. In addition, new employees will be given time to engage with the compliance process as noted in the policy.
Requesting Exemptions and Deferrals: Faculty, staff and students may be eligible for medical exceptions consistent with CDC guidance and manufacturer labeling, accommodations based on disability or religious belief, and deferrals for those who are pregnant. Exception or deferral requests should be submitted no later than September 2, 2021. Learn more about exceptions and deferrals.
Watch the Employee Vaccine Mandate Town Hall: If you weren’t able to attend last week’s Employee Vaccine Mandate Town Hall, you can watch the event recording to get information about:
- Current state of the pandemic, COVID variants and vaccine efficacy
- COVID risk and vaccine safety for people who are pregnant or lactating
- Submitting vaccine documentation
- Requesting exceptions and deferrals
