UC San Diego is pleased to invite nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management. We have enlisted the assistance of leading executive search firm WittKieffer to help us manage the search process. Alysson Satterlund, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, has agreed to chair the Search Advisory Committee, whose members are listed below.
Reporting directly to UC San Diego’s Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management will provide the leadership, strategic direction, and coordination of a comprehensive and aggressive enrollment initiative consistent with the goals of the campus strategic plan and UC system. UC San Diego seeks to build upon a history of success and continue the momentum to become an excellent enrollment team that is dynamic, innovative, market-facing, responsive and nimble, building academic excellence while developing a diverse student population.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONScope/Responsibilities:
The next AVC-Enrollment Management will provide the leadership, strategic direction, and coordination of a comprehensive and aggressive enrollment initiative consistent with the goals of the campus strategic plan and UC system. UC San Diego seeks to build upon a history of success and continue the momentum to become an excellent enrollment operation that is dynamic, innovative, market-facing, responsive and nimble, building academic excellence while developing a diverse student population. The AVC-EM will bring a national perspective on enrollment management; establish best practices for data centric enrollment management culture; and introduce ideas and innovations that will achieve institutional aspirations while being responsive to California’s educational pipeline of outstanding and diverse students. The AVC-EM will identify and cultivate new recruitment markets; develop short- and long-range enrollment projections in collaboration with the Director of Admissions, Dean of Undergraduate Education and the Director of Institutional Research to assist in institutional planning; partner with Information Technology Services (ITS) on integrating new technologies into recruitment strategies that include coordinated messaging and marketing approaches; and will partner with faculty, academic and administrative staff to develop and realize specific recruiting goals, and create sophisticated and strategic initiatives to respond to the needs and expectations of students and the realities of the marketplace.
Skills and/or experience necessary to perform this position:
- Enrollment management expertise: Track record of creating and implementing a comprehensive enrollment management plan; demonstrated success achieving enrollment goals preferably using a holistic approach with careful attention towards class mix and diversity; deep understanding of current enrollment trends, challenges and opportunities; expertise in or knowledge of financial aid, registration and enrollment analytics to maximize outcomes.
- Exceptional analytical skills: Achievement in utilizing data analytics to drive strategy and support for enrollment and marketing decisions; track record of complex problem solving that reflects excellent organizational skills.
- Managerial acumen: History of effectiveness in leading a diverse team of professionals, support staff, and students; ability to develop a high-performing team; evidence of leading an organization to achieve a successful strategic outcome.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills: Effective speaking and writing skills; ability to articulate a vision with clarity and transparency to constituents including prospective students and their families, enrollment staff, the faculty, administrative partners, alumni, trustees and the public; finesse in delivering data-driven results with a student support perspective; aptitude for building collaborative partnerships and consensus across campus while agilely and purposely leading through change.
- Commitment to diversity, equity and access: Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusive excellence and a record of success in increasing diversity, equity and access at one's institution; ability to be proactive to ensure that all voices are heard in an equitable manner.
- Technological sophistication: An understanding of systems integration to achieve operational efficiencies; ability to leverage existing and emerging technologies to advance enrollment efforts.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills: History of effective collaboration with academic units and other senior administrative offices in setting and implementing enrollment strategies and achieving goals; ability to work within a culture of strong shared governance; excellent interpersonal and writing skills; ability to engage and inspire campus stakeholders in enrollment efforts; skill and confidence to manage up, down and across lines of leadership.
