REMINDER - UCSD Moores Cancer Center/American Cancer Society Pilot Grants

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY JUNIOR INVESTIGATOR PILOT GRANTS
2021 Request for Applications (RFAs)
Deadline: Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 5 p.m. PDT

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is now accepting applications from junior investigators for American Cancer Society (ACS) Institutional Research Grants (IRG) (ACS-IRG-19-230-48-IRG). Projects in all disciplines, with a clear focus on cancer, are encouraged and accepted. Applicants must be Assistant Professors at UC San Diego, within six years of their first independent faculty appointment.

Up to four, 1-year awards of up to $50,000 per award will be given, with one of the four awards specifically granted as part of the ACS’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategy for creating new initiatives for increasing diversity in cancer research. For each award, $30,000 will come from the ACS, with an additional $20,000 supplemented by MCC.

Applications for ACS seed grants must demonstrate a clear relevance to cancer, and investigators with a history of cancer-relevant research will be favored. Other than NIH K series or career development grants solely intended for salary, applicants can have no current support from the national agencies (foundation grants are acceptable provided they are not the result of national-peer-reviewed competition and that they support a different project). Applicants must be independent and have a commitment from UC San Diego for salary and space.
To be considered for the ACS Underrepresented Minority (URM) Junior Investigator award, along with the requirements above, the ACS requires that the PI must be from a racial or ethnic group considered to be an underrepresented minority (URM) in science by the National Science Foundation, namely, African American (or Black), American Indian and Alaska Native, Hispanic (or Latino), Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.
