Statement in Support of Those Impacted by the Crisis in Afghanistan

Members of the UC San Diego community have family and friends who are being affected by the crisis in Afghanistan, and we are all affected by news of the escalating violence in the region. I express my support and sympathy for those who are dealing with the consequences of these challenging and disturbing incidents.
We are actively connecting our U.S.-based Afghan students to our UC Federal Government Relations liaisons for assistance. Our International Students and Programs Office is working to ensure that support is in place for our current and prospective students from Afghanistan, and my leadership team is conducting direct outreach to affected faculty and staff.
We understand that events of this nature can affect everyone in different ways. If you feel impacted by this and other events, or if you are experiencing feelings of grief, UC San Diego has resources to support you.
Students may contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at (858) 534-3755. If you are a campus employee, contact the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program at (858) 534-5523. If you are a UC San Diego Health employee, call (866) 808-6205, company code UCSDMC or review information pertaining to the Employee Assistance Program on Health HR's website.
