I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lieutenant Melissa Luth for her leadership and support during the transitional period following the retirement of Chief David Rose.
Chief Gregory Murphy of Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN) graciously accepted our offer to return to the UC San Diego Police Department (PD) as the Assistant Police Chief, effective July 12, 2021. Many of you know Chief Murphy and his extensive background in two university police departments, consultant for POST and many years of service as an officer and leader with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Chief Murphy will also take on the role of Interim Chief of Police as we continue to develop a recruitment process for a new Chief of Police in the coming weeks.
