Updates from Human Resources

Our Staff Town Hall is next week on Tuesday, September 28 at 2 p.m. These monthly forums are a great opportunity to come together as a UC San Diego staff community for news and updates. We’ll have a panel of campus and health experts on hand to answer your questions about COVID-19, vaccines, campus health and safety guidelines, returning to on-site work and other important topics to staff. We’ll also get an update about the Mid-Coast Trolley Extension.

I encourage you to share your questions when you register. Your input helps ensure that we are providing timely and relevant information for campus staff. Register and submit your questions today.

Return to Learn

Vaccine Mandate Supervisor Dashboard: As part of UC San Diego’s efforts to ensure compliance with the University of California vaccine mandate, supervisors are required to check the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Compliance Dashboard each work day to view the compliance status for employees, volunteers, and others they directly supervise. The dashboard does not contain any medical information, but rather indicates whether an individual is Compliant, Compliant with potential additional requirements or Not Compliant.

Learn more about the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Compliance Dashboard, including log-in instructions for supervisors. Please note: If you are not accessing the dashboard from a UC San Diego worksite, you must be logged on to the campus VPN.
  • Vaccine mandate information for Spanish-speaking employees: If you are a supervisor and you identify Non-Compliant employees on your dashboard who speak Spanish as their primary language, please provide them with these translated instructions for engaging with the UC vaccine mandate. If employees do not work primarily at a desk with a computer, we encourage you to set up a computer station in a common area where employees can take action to engage with the vaccine policy.
Extension of Time to Use Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL): Earlier this month, the UC Office of the President granted an extension to the time period during which employees can use Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) through June 30, 2022. Learn more about COVID-19 paid leave provisions for UC San Diego employees.

More Time to Use your Vacation Accruals: Recognizing the continued disruptions and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of California has authorized a temporary extension granting more flexibility for policy-covered staff employees who have been unable to use their accrued vacation time. This does not apply to represented employees. The extension is applied automatically through UCPath. If you are eligible, you will continue accruing vacation leave through June 30, 2022, even if you are over your usual maximum accrual. Learn more on UCnet.

Campus Health and Safety

Ordering PPE and Cleaning Supplies: As staff, faculty and students return to campus, Strategic Procurement has placed bulk orders for personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning supplies, which will be stocked and managed by the Logistics team to ensure a consistent supply of critical items at a competitive price. If you need to order supplies for your area, visit the PPE Store Program on Blink to learn how to order available items in Oracle.

COVID-19 Testing for Campus Employees: Testing for COVID-19 is available to all campus community members at no cost to you. As a reminder, employees who are unvaccinated and who work on-site are required to participate in twice-weekly testing (every 3-5 days).
  • First time testing at UC San Diego: For your first-ever COVID-19 test through UC San Diego, you must schedule a provider-administered test appointment at the Price Center or a UC San Diego Health drive-up location. Schedule your COVID-19 test appointment.
  • Using COVID-19 test kit vending machines: After you’ve had at least one COVID-19 test with UC San Diego, you can use the convenient test kit vending machines on campus. Using your employee ID card, pick up a test from a vending machine, follow the instructions and drop it off within 72 hours. Learn more about self-administered testing for employees, including vending machine locations.
More Updates for Staff

ARAG Legal Insurance Plan: With Open Enrollment coming up later this fall, it’s a great time to explore and consider UC San Diego’s suite of benefits offerings. The employee-paid ARAG legal insurance plan assists in payment for routine and preventative legal services including simple wills and trusts, power of attorney, name changes and more. It also includes coverage up to $1 million for expenses associated with identity theft. Learn more about the ARAG legal insurance plan. If this plan is right for you, you can sign up during Open Enrollment (October 28 - November 19, 2021).

Staff Mentorship Program: Looking to build new connections in our staff community? The Staff Mentorship Program matches mentors and mentees based on their interests and experiences with the goal of preparing mentees to grow in their careers and become leaders in their field. Staff mentor and mentee pairs meet once a month over a six-month period to discuss goal setting, networking and career planning. Mentor and mentee applications are due next week on Thursday, September 30.  Submit your application.
