Updates from Human Resources
ALL STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO (Excluding UC San Diego Health)
The information in this campus notice applies to campus staff. UC San Diego Health and Health Sciences staff should refer to Pulse for the most up-to-date information.

Updates from Human Resources

Do you have friends, family or neighbors who are interested in working at UC San Diego? Temporary Employment Services (TES), a division of Human Resources, is always looking for candidate referrals. Temporary employees are eligible for a suite of benefits, including health insurance and paid time off. Joining the Triton community as a TES employee is a great way to gain valuable experience and, in many cases, transition into a career appointment at UC San Diego.

Temporary Employment Services is currently recruiting for a number of service positions, including dining and custodial services. I encourage you to share these opportunities with those in your network who might be interested in joining our employee community. Interested candidates can apply for food service roles online or explore other temporary positions on the TES website.

WEX/Discovery Benefits Email Notices to Employees

A number of UC employees received emails this week from WEX Health (the administrator for UC’s flexible spending account, COBRA and adoption assistance plans) about a change in information in their online WEX account. This change was made in error and is being corrected. Please note that the error is not the result of a security breach and UC employee data has not been compromised. Employees do not need to take any action regarding these email notices.

The UC Office of the President has posted detailed information about this processing error on UCnet. Please do not submit tickets to either UC San Diego ServiceNow (SNOW) or via the UCPath Portal related to this issue.

Return to Learn

Campus Health and Safety Guidelines: Last week Chancellor Khosla shared a campus notice with updates and reminders about some of the important things UC San Diego is doing to keep our campus as safe as possible. Here are a few key takeaways for campus staff employees:
  • Masking Policy and Recommendations: Regardless of vaccination status, everyone must wear a mask or face covering at all indoor locations at UC San Diego, except while eating and drinking. Masks may be removed if you are alone in an office with a closed door. In outdoor settings masks are encouraged, but not required (unless specifically required by campus event organizers). Read the full masking policy.

The campus recommends the use of N-95 and KN-95 masks. Please note that a face covering/face mask, as defined by the masking policy, does not include a scarf, ski mask, balaclava, bandana, gaiter, turtleneck, collar, plastic face shield, or single layer of fabric.
  • Employee Testing Requirements: Asymptomatic PCR testing for COVID-19 is required twice a week for all unvaccinated employees who are coming to campus. Testing is not required for vaccinated employees, but is available and strongly encouraged. Read the full COVID-19 testing policy. Find locations for ongoing asymptomatic testing locations on campus on the Return to Learn website.
Supervisor Dashboard: As part of UC San Diego’s efforts to ensure compliance with the University of California vaccine mandate, campus supervisors now have access to a COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Compliance Dashboard that allows them to view compliance with the mandate among employees, volunteers, and others they directly supervise.

This week, we are encouraging supervisors to log in and get familiar with the dashboard. Beginning on Monday, September 13, supervisors are required to check the dashboard each work day to ensure all employees are in compliance with the UC COVID-19 vaccine policy. Learn more about the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Compliance Dashboard, including instructions for supervisors.

Vaccine Mandate Compliance for Volunteers: Volunteers must comply with the UC vaccine mandate and are not eligible for exceptions or deferrals to the vaccine policy. All volunteers active as of September 1, 2021 are being centrally uploaded into UCPath as Contingent Workers (CWRs) and will appear on the compliance dashboard no later than next week. Going forward, departments are responsible for uploading all new volunteers into UCPath as Contingent Workers and ensuring their compliance with the vaccine mandate using the dashboard.

Staff Town Hall: Our next Staff Town Hall is scheduled for Tuesday, September 28 at 2 p.m. Our panel of campus and health experts will be on hand to answer your questions about COVID-19, vaccines, campus health and safety guidelines, returning to campus and other important topics to staff. Register and submit your questions today.

Connection and Community

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony: You are invited to join members of the Veterans Staff Association (VSA) and the UC San Diego Police Department this Friday, September 10 at 12 p.m. for the 20th Anniversary Remembrance of Lives Lost on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will take place at the Memorial Tree on Warren Mall at the foot of the Snake Path. To learn more, contact Joanna Boval, VSA communications coordinator, at jboval@ucsd.edu.

Cabinet Conversation with Chancellor Khosla: Get to know Chancellor Pradeep Khosla at the next installment of Cabinet Conversations on Tuesday, September 14 at 10 a.m. Register and submit your questions for Chancellor Khosla.

Lunchtime Crafting with Colleagues: Connect with your Triton staff community and create a custom-made thank you note for a colleague at Love Craft, a virtual crafting event hosted by the UC San Diego Craft Center on Thursday, September 16 from 12 - 1 p.m.  Suggested supplies include notecards, crayons, paint brushes and watercolor paints. Register for the Love Craft crafting demonstration.

On the Horizon: Dates and Deadlines

Deadline to Submit Your Staff@Work Survey: The deadline to share your feedback in this year’s Staff@Work Survey is this Friday, September 10. This annual survey measures department and leadership performance from the perspective of employees and provides valuable data for improving the work environment. You should have received your survey invitation on August 11; check your inbox to find your personal survey link.

Staff Mentorship Program: The Staff Mentorship Program is now accepting applications for Fall 2021/Winter 2022. The program matches mentors and mentees based on their interests and experiences with the goal of preparing mentees to grow in their careers and become leaders in their field. Mentor and mentee pairs meet once a month over a six-month period to discuss goal setting, networking and career planning. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, September 30.  Submit your application.
